Your take on this is totally correct take on this whole affair (no pun intended).

As a parent, I feel it is my responsibility to turn my kids out when they are 18, or they can stay and contribute to the household finances.

I'm sure that's not an opinion favored by most, but my 5 adult children (ages 18 - 28) have all ended up in an advantageous position because of their own drive, desire, and fortitude. It possibly had something to do with me not condoning their sin.

Call me crazy, but I find the phrase "turn my kids out" repugnant. My adult children, if they would be in dire straights, would always have a home with me.

And in turn, as we have such a close and loving relationship, they may take me in someday, in my old age. It's all about love, caring, respect...and family.
