Feinstein to push assault-weapon ban
Shooting prompts senator to reintroduce bill
By Associated Press
Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Friday that she will reintroduce legislation banning assault weapons after a city maintenance worker allegedly shot and killed two fellow employees with an AK-47 assault rifle.
"Once again, we've seen the tragic consequences of the ready availability of assault weapons throughout our society," Feinstein, D-Calif., said in a statement.
Thomas Sampson, 25, was booked for investigation of first-degree murder early Friday for the deaths of his supervisor, Rene Flores, 54, and co-worker Ricardo Garris, 49, police said.
Sampson, who was held without bail, turned himself in Thursday after the late-afternoon shooting, said Officer April Harding, a police spokeswoman.
Garris, of Inglewood, and Flores, of the Sunland area, both had worked for the Bureau of Street Services for more than 20 years. The department fills potholes, fixes curbs and distributes asphalt in the city.
Feinstein in her statement said the shooting occurred just days before the anniversary of a Senate vote to extend the assault-weapons ban for 10 years. The legislation expired after President George W. Bush failed to urge Republican leaders to move the legislation, Feinstein said.
Feinstein said she intends to reintroduce the legislation next week and she hoped for support from Republican leaders.
Mayor James Hahn also sent a letter to Congress urging renewal of the assault-weapons ban. Though the city and state have laws banning assault weapons, they are still readily available across the state's borders, Hahn said.
"Therefore, it is critical to have an assault-weapons ban that prohibits the manufacture, importation and sale of assault weapons and ammunition throughout the United States," he said.
Sampson and Flores earlier Thursday afternoon had a dispute over Sampson being late for work, police said. Sampson later abandoned his city-owned truck on Interstate 10 in West Los Angeles and took a bus to where he parked his car. He then drove home, changed from his work clothes into a suit, armed himself with the AK-47 and drove to the field office where he waited for Flores, confronted him and shot him, police alleged.
Garris was shot because he happened to be in the office when Flores was attacked, police said.
Those are interesting stats about gun sales in California. When politicians "interpret" the Constitution to meet their own agendas and seek to take away those liberties that sacred document was designed to protect, this Nation is in big trouble.
Does this mean that DiFi and Jay Rockefeller will be turning theirs in?
"The legislation expired after President George W. Bush failed to urge Republican leaders to move the legislation, Feinstein said."
...I'm sure this is why congress let the legislation expire...it had nothing to do w/ their constituents being against the ban...
"REGULAR FIREARMS????"
What is there that is not "regular" about a bayonet lug?
What is there that keeps a firearm from being "regular" if it holds a magazine with eleven rounds but which is regular if it only holds ten rounds?
What is not "regular" about attaching a pistol grip to a rifle considering the fact that all of our soldiers carry such a rifle and the Los Angeles Police Department stores one in the trunk of every sargeant's patrol car?
Let's not get carried away drinking the liberal kool-aid.
Typical response from an ugly Brain-dead communist Rat; trying to punish everyone. No answers just more laws Gee wonder we did not make the top ten list of freest countries.
Would the old skank feel better if they were killed by a knife? She has said that a total gun ban is what she wants to leave as her legacy.
The bad news here is that Gonzales is now head of the Justice Department, and he supports gun control, from what I understand.
The only valid answer to this Bitch is: STOCKPILE, STCKPILE, STOCKPILE!!!
Awe Dan, come on, we know your pulling our leg. Heck, with all those gun nuts around, your county must be a hotbed of gun crimes. Why just last month, there must have been some courthouse shootings, road rage shootings, workplace shootings, restaurant shootings, school shootings, mall shootings, shootings, shootings, shootings, killing, oh my! And what about poor Bambi?
And what's with the media cover-up? You need to get out of there before it's too late, and go to some place safe, like Chicago.
"Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in." -- D. Feinswine.
Does that answer your question?
Well, in the context of my first statement, and remembering what forum you are on..... what do YOU think my second statement means?
Speaking of 'dat ol' debbil weapon, the AK-47, brace yourself for the latest news. Beverly White just reported (Ch. 4 KNBC/LA) a shooting in downtown LA -- three taken to hospital and three with lesser wounds (or none) apparently walked away. This reporter said they had no description of the perps or their getaway vehicle, but STILL was able to identify the weapons used as "AK-47s" (must have repeated that ID at least 3 or 4 times). Now, rather amazing that, in the middle of all this confusion with no ID for suspects or vehicle, somehow they know the weapons were AK-47s. Good old NBC--still leftwingers after all these years...
Feinstein wouldn't know an assualt weapon if one jumped up in front of her. Make her give up her concealed carry permit and the weapon she carries. This
!#$%^ can shove off and I don't care how she feels about this. The Second Amendment and the Constitution will stand inspite of her and the idiots that follow her. God Bless America and all who have defended her; Past, Present, and the Future to come.
In other news, water wet, sky blue, more on that later.
Let's see ... "hunting" ... "plinking" ... "target" ... "silhouette" ...
Nope. None of those terms shows up in the Second Amendment. AR-15s make excellent firearms for all but hunting anything but small game. The reason that the Kalifornia "Assault Weapons Ban" is so complicated is because the term "assault weapon" was invented in an attempt to outlaw some firearms. Your context clearly distinguished between what was being outlawed and "regular" firearms. It's liberal nonsense. The proof is that every time we turn around, the anti-gunners are adding something else to the list. They have no intention of ever stopping.
My M1A would make an excellent "sniper" weapon.
My Kimber Ultra-Carry is obviously designed to be "hidden" and should be highly regulated.
My Glock 26 is made of plastic and can be easily sneaked aboard aircraft since it doesn't show up on x-rays.
My 357 Magnum was purposely designed to kill people and so there is no justification for civilian ownership of such a powerful weapon. Most women can't even comfortably shoot such a powerful handgun.
My Beretta Model 92 has a loaded cylinder indicator which is obviously inadequate since a teenager here claims to have accidently shot his friend thinking the gun was not loaded.
The anti-gunners are busy pushing legislation to make every one of these firearms something other than "regular". You help them when you support outlawing my AR15.
you are now just showing your extreme side and paranoia...go back to my original post........I said I DO NOT support an AWB......period.......read it again....I shot M14's on the ROTC Rifle Team......I own 6 different fire arms.......I know when one is passionate on an issue they see things in posts that simply are not there and that is what you are doing......twisting my words.....I could take most any post here and twist it to say what I think it should say.......it is semantics and I was simply replying to a guy on here about the NY ban being even more restricitve than Calif's current one.......calm down and stop alienating someone that is on your side in this.....jeesh.......again......if you are gonna use my words against me.....then also put in your post to me where I said I do not support any gun restrictions.....if you don't believe it then I can't help you......
Perhaps I misunderstood your use of the word "regular". Rather than me use your words against you, you could just explain what you meant by "regular" and what you believe constitutes any firearm which is not "regular".
