Shame On You: The Apple iPod
Battery Replacement Problems Are Creating Problems
Feb 25, 2005 3:00 pm US/Eastern
NEW YORK (CBS) The Apple iPod is one of the most popular consumer electronic products in history. Thus far, 10 million have been sold to music lovers.
But you may be surprised to learn what happens when the battery on the iPod dies.
Our Shame On You team reports that battery replacement problems are making some people irate over the iPod. See why Arnold Diaz puts Apple in the Hall of Shame.

This must be some sort of copyright strategy since the ipod battery issue has been going on for years.
Why else would they continue to leave such a defect in their product?
It's almost 20 years later. Might be time to let that Apple grudge go. Most of the employees are different now.
Excellent rant, grounded in false information.
Oh I forgot to mention Logic pro, boy that is a real piece of crappy software.
Sarcasam off.
I had some tracks I had bought from Napster for my old non-iPod player (which croaked after three months, BTW). Napster tracks are in an encrypted WMA format, and the iPod wouldn't convert them. I just burned the tracks to CD and then re-ripped them back into iTunes as AACs (Apple's format). I've had no problems loading non-iTunes mp3 files onto the iPod.
LOL
Jeff,
Sometime, we have GOT to talk!
I dumped DOS years ago and have used Macs ever since.
Swordmaker,
One for your list?
You're spreading false information, and now that you have refused to admit any of it, you have classified yourself, and you didn't need my help doing it. Hahahahaha.
I'm in the midst of making a decision about an iPod purchase right now. I do a lot of out of state business trips by car, and using the CD player in the car isn't always a safe maneuver. I've been thinking of using an iPod and connecting it to the car stereo system using one of those adapters that looks like an audio cassette with a little cable that has a mini-plug that goes to the iPod.
my mini came with a firewire cable... I just got it two weeks ago...
Thank you, cajungirl. I'm thinking seriously about buying an iPod (the 20GB). Would you recommend the AppleCare Protection Plan for it? I get the APP on my Apple computers, but is it a wise purchase for an iPod in your opinion?
If you plan to boycott tech companies whose CEOs are Dem supporters, that's your choice.
Honestly. I wish Jobs would release an Intel version of the Mac OS and put this Windows POS to bed once and for all. I think the world has had enough.
I like iPods, but if car travel is your focus, you might be able to get a car stereo that plays MP3 files from CD-Rs. That would put the controls right in front of you while you drive. Of course, that solution is also bolted into your dash, so you'll have to decide.
My mom just had surgery on her ear....so no headphones. I bought her for 29 bucks a radio tranmitter. It is small and fits right to the top of the ipod...it then plays though any radio with no wires. Kitchen to car to living room, etc. It has worked well for the couple weeks she has had it.
Some of those cars don't have cassette players. I have an FM transmitter for my iPod to use for car trips. I also have a couple of audio books on my iPod which are great for travelling if I tire of music.
My 20 GB iPod that I just got last week came with both a firewire and a USB cable. You need the firewire cable to use the (also included) AC adapter.
I've had to use Windows for a couple of jobs and when I volunteered at my daughter's school.
I found it incredibly frustrating.
CLUNKY, touchy and always infected because the kids brought disks from home and didn't sweep them.
I want my computer to do what I want, when I tell it to, and not give me a lot of lip.
My Mac does that.
My God... you can replace the batteries in less than 5 minutes. Enough with this stupid FUD.
