"While breaking the jaws of Greenpeace protesters is not to be recommended..."

Well it may not be 'recommended', but I'll bet it's loads of fun.

"Proof of just how free a pass has been given to the global warming doomsayers came in the recent demolition of a hitherto unquestioned mathematical cornerstone of their theory. The so-called "hockey stick graph" published in 1998 by University of Massachusetts geoscientist Michael Mann became an article of faith, and underpinned the Kyoto Protocol. It purported to plot average surface temperatures of the Northern Hemisphere for the previous 1000 years. Temperatures appear to remain constant until 100 years ago when the graph takes a sudden upturn, supposedly showing the Earth heating up as the industrial revolution kicks in. "

"It took six years and several sacked scientific journal editors before doubt was thrown on the hockey stick. Last year Canadian scientists Stephen McIntyre and Ross McKitrick discovered a fundamental flaw in the computer program which produces the hockey stick. It seemed, whatever random data it was fed, the program almost always produced a hockey stick."

"The Canadians couldn't get their work published by a scientific journal but they put it on the web for all to see."

"That discovery hit me like a bombshell," wrote Richard Muller in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Technology Review. "Suddenly the hockey stick, the poster-child of the global warming community, turns out to be an artifact of poor mathematics." Eureka!"

"The voices of dissenters have been silenced for too long so all power to Crichton for bypassing the gatekeepers and going straight to the people. You can only suspect the pendulum of environmental thought might be swinging back towards the rational, collecting the odd Greenpeace jaw as it goes."

If they had their attitude adjusted more often, maybe they would quit their protesting.

Ernest here is another club to pound the green Willies with.

Apparently, the watermelon's hockey stick math formula was "gamed" to show so called global warming.

While breaking the jaws of Greenpeace protesters is not to be recommended ...

Whoa there. Let's not be too hasty in rejecting that option ...

I watched Crichton on, I think, C-span the other day doing a lecture on the environment. He was brilliant

No it is an article of pure and clever deceit. Any reputable scientist would have tested the program against known data or as in the case random data. It probably took a hell of a lot of work to produce the program that would give them the desired answer regardless of the data feed it.

"Everybody" says it, therefore it must be true. Never mind that there are no facts to back up "everybody"

And what, pray tell, was the path from there to the attention of a wider public? It wouldn't have been bloggers and FR and then talk radio, by any chance?

Probably the first step was posting the data on some site on the internet. Then your comments could probably be the path of this data. Your comments:

"And what, pray tell, was the path from there to the attention of a wider public? It wouldn't have been bloggers and FR and then talk radio, by any chance?"

Finally! And I really loved the imagery of floor traders beating the snot out of those dopes. Anyone that can work a stock exchange floor has got to be a quick thinker and able to handle anything that comes their way. It was probably like swatting flies for them, LOL!

This is what is called the reverse scientific method:
  1. Draw your conclusion.
  2. Select data to support it.
  3. Reject data which does not.
  4. Repeat the process in steps 2 and 3, adjusting your test parameters until data which does not support the process is automatically filtered out.
  5. Move on to next conclusion, repeating the above steps.

The jaws of Greepeace communists should be broken often and at every opportunity.

Greenpeace is one of the lead communist organizations banning DDT. The mosquito borne illness that DDT could control affects 300 million people in the Third World and kills 2 to 3 million citizens, mostly women, children and babies. Greenpeace is engaged in mass murder, but the ICC will never charge them.

I place Greenpeace in the crowd that includes Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot.

Every time a jaw of a Greenpeace communist is broken is a cause for celebration. If it were up to me, the United States should declare Greenpeace members as terrorists to be shot on sight.

What [the 35 protesters] were not prepared for was the post-prandial aggression of oil traders who kicked and punched them back on to the pavement . . .

Wonder if there is a video of the event? I'd pay good money to see that.
