Folks, if you aren't from California, you can't put this in context. This is not just one isolated school. The percentage of children in the LA Unified School District breaks down like this: 72% hispanic, 9% white, 10% black, 9% asian and other. Read that again: 72% hispanic - in a school district with hundreds of thousands of children. In 1970, and for the previous 100 years, those numbers were reversed. Actually, more like 90% white, 10% black up until the early 1980s.

This article is about Santa Barbara - the only reason that there is an essentially all white school to flee to is that Santa Barbara is one of the most expensive towns on the planet - thus only a few of the schools are as impacted as the one described here (and someone else can explain how anyone without a six figure income can live here, but I think I can guess).

That is what has happened in California. The FROBLs here will say, "what of it?" - but what the poor, deluded liberal star of the article has to say speaks volumes: her children are essentially aliens in their own country. Outnumbered by people ethnically, linguistically, and culturally different. Not to mention usually hostile as well. Would anyone with a shred of interest in their children leave them in such a situation?

When did the people of California vote to have this happen to them?

We never voted to have this happen to us at all.

In fact, prop 187 which passed by a whopping 60 some percent would have addressed some of the problem. Gray Davis shopped the prop off to the 9th circuit and it was struck down as un-Constitutional.

So much for the people of California having a say in their own destiny.

Thanks again, liberals.

In Los angeles 40% of the students are English Language Learners Most, but not all of the English Language Learners are illegal immigrants or the children of illegal immigrants.

In 2003-04, about 305,000 LAUSD students were native Spanish speakers, about 94 percent of the district's students learning English as a second language. Their Academic Performance Index, is below average and they repesent 65% of the dropouts in the district and those who stay are are among the lowest scorers on the California High School Exit Exam. Only 53 percent of passed the math portion, and 57 percent passed the language portion. Compare this to the other students in the district, 85 percent passed the math portion and 88 percent the language portion.

The growth in the number of these students in the last dacade has doubled accounting for the district's entire population growth, according to the Department of Education.

When did the people of California vote to have this happen to them?

When they voted for an almost all-Democratoc Legislature.

OTOH, they did vote for Prop 187, but now they won't fight to have it reinstated.

"if you aren't from California, you can't put this in context"

Absolutely correct......when my oldest was going into kindergarten, I visited the local school and decided there was no way I could do this to her. I enrolled her in a private school I couldn't afford and took the first transfer I could find. That was 10 years ago. I can't imagine what it is like now, but I knew where it was headed.

When did the people of California vote to have this happen to them?

When they voted for Boxer, Feinstein, Gray Davis, and the Democrat State Legislature; when they vote against every referendum to protect the state from illegal immigrants and FOR every referendum that pumps more bucks into a Marxist school budget. The counties with the biggest socioeconomic problems are the BLUE counties.

Because of the Democrats in this state, California is rapidly becoming a province of Mexico - Hail Azetlan!
