AJA Video Systems Inc. announced Friday that a Power Mac G5 equipped with Apple's Final Cut Pro HD software and AJA's KONA 2 video cards is helping Fox Sports broadcast this year's NASCAR races, beginning with the recent Daytona 500 on February 20, 2005.
Similar configurations have been used by Fox Sports to help broadcast last year's World Series games and this year's Super Bowl. AJA says that Fox Sports will use the Power Mac G5 throughout the NASCAR 2005 - 2006 season.
The rig is being used as "a tool for live television," according to Fox Sports Vice President, Field Operations Jerry Steinberg. "Events like the Super Bowl, the World Series, and NASCAR require things to work right under the most challenging conditions," he said in a statement.
AJA said that the during the race, editors pulled together live shots, then edited them and put them together for bumpers and teases using the KONA 2, which also grabbed content from various tape sources. The Mac captured 720p HD video and AES audio directly into Final Cut Pro HD; The KONA 2 card was used to send the content back to a router and into an EVS Digital Disk Recorder. From there, it went to a switcher and then onto the air.
Don't tell B2k about this... nobody uses Macs
Further proof that NASCAR is getting more gay all the time. ;O)
Macs aren't used in business except for Fox News for NASCAR... PING!!!
Pssst. I've beem told not to tell B2K about this... shhhhhh.
If you want to be racing with Macs or stuck in the pits without, Freepmail me.
Bush2000 is going to be deeply saddened.
Thanks for the ping!
(Bump!)
On a side note, I really wish Fox would go for 1080i, or even 1080p. What's this 720p stuff?
Final Cut Express, the baby version of Final Cut Pro is great for amateur video editing. I didn't know ANYTHING when I got that program and started fooling around with it and I was able to edit, add neat transitions, add music and effects and come up with a really great vacation DVD. Then I did a DVD of my niece's wedding. Everyone was really impressed and I'm just a piker.
IDVD for Mac is also awesome. I used that for the DVD burning. Makes it easy to look like a pro when you're really a novice.
Tsk.
Stop into a mac retail store and get an education........
Don't need to... got my Mac G5 desktop right here...
Great job, randita - I'm impressed!
Can't get any software for them. (/sarcasm)
