Syria, surrounded by a democratic Turkey, Iraq, Israel and Lebanon, would find many ways to stir up trouble away from home.

Assad and the Ba'athes have to be on the list too.

It's just that they really do have WMD so you can't just send in the Marines.

"Too bad for Syria," said Aoun. "They didn't have to build their economy at our expense! Now they have to deal with the consequences. They have to figure out how to leave Lebanon, which they counted on too much to sustain them."

Ping for a good quote! Thieves hurt themselves the most, because they weaken their ability to work. This applies to countries as well as individuals.

The U.S. led war against terrorism and its advances in Iraq and Afghanistan have enhanced the climate in the Middle East....

"The U.S. efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan have changed the Middle East.....

But wait, I've been told for the past 18 months by the Old Media that it's folly for President Bush to think that we can change the climate in the Middle East for the better. Could they been wrong?

Heck, maybe they could rebuild the great Temple to Jupiter at Heliopolis (Baalbeck)-- not for worship but for tourism. Recreate one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world.

Okay, that is pretty impractical, and might encourage paganism, so I withdraw the idea, but it would be neat to see.

Even better, perhaps the Israelis could rebuild their Temple. Even more unlikely, but it would be interesting to see.

Opening a can of worms.
