Terri Schaivo - The End Game - Why Terri Schiavo Has to Die
The Catholic Advocate ^ | June 2004 | Cecilia H. Martin

Posted on 02/25/2005 9:19:53 AM PST by LaFlorida

"...What is the motive behind the restaurateur turned physical therapist turned nurse who passionately pursues his wife's death? Many wonder. Could Michael Schiavo be a pawn, a pawn in a much larger game being played for much higher stakes?"

All the Dr's are wrong that Michael hired and the judge allowed to testify.

He disallowed Terrys parents on several occasions from presenting their own expert testimony.

Judge Greer has sealed that womans fate and left it in the hands of her husband who may very well have tried to kill her, resulting in her injuries.

This is abominable.

You haven't addressed my point at all.

You think that, if efforts could be successful to restore Terri's faculties, you would be in favor of this.
You stated that in the post to which I replied.

Now you go off in an entirely different direction, instead of responding to my point.

And you wonder why people here are tired of talking to you.

A murderer is treated with more compassion. At least they get the needle and die quickly.

You have made your religious choice, and I have made mine.

Personally, my wife and I have tatoos on our bodies to prevent this situation from ever happening to us.

If Sue and I are ever in this situation, we want (demand) to be with God.

Your personal choice is obviously different. For some reason, you fear death.

"But you and I both know, that will not happen...."

I don't know that. How do YOU know that? Huh?

Is that the heresy known as Gnosticism?

Isn't this the basis for most of the New Age nonsense one can find down at the local bookstore?

Please, it is difficult to keep track of multiple replies. If I have offended or ignored you in any way, now is the time to explain what I have done wrong.

All along, I have been talking about the spiritual aspect.

At no time, have I attacked or even implied that your personal views on this subject is wrong.

I have four daughters. The youngest turns 43 tomorrow and the oldest one is 49. I told Mr. CGG that if this were one of our daughters, I'd be taking my daughter out of there under threat of a gun. If they shot me in the process, so be it. It would be worth it. No one would starve my child to death without a whole lot of trouble.

You said something in a previous post that I heartily AGREE with.

You stated that if efforts could be successful to restore Terri's faculties, you would be in favor of this. I responded that such efforts have been cruelly and ILLEGALLY denied her for many years now. Your response was not even remotely related to my post.

The woman (Sarah Scantlin) who just started speaking after 20 years in a coma was fortunately receiving all sorts of therapy, and this was a big factor in her remarkable recovery. It didn't just happen spontaneously.

I will track down the post for you and your actual words, if you'd like.

I just want to keep on topic. I wasn't talking about "spirituality" or heaven and hell, so why did you go off on a irrelevant tangent?

I'd be taking my daughter out of there under threat of a gun.

In this aspect, as a father, I would probably do the exact same thing.

The next day, once her life was in your personal care, you would probably start to agree with me.

Give her all the food and water that she wants.

I will personally pay for the restaurant bill for anything that she eats or drinks.

Terri isn't in a coma. Her cerebral cortex is almost completely liquified. Several doctors at the trial stated that she has no hope for any recovery. Those who said otherwise said she might have some of her cerebral cortex left, but they couldn't say for sure.

So would any of us, but it was long ago that brain damaged who were scheduled to die were allowed to eat. They have learned from the past.

TERRI SCHINDLER-SCHIAVO—MYTHS vs. REALITY

MYTH
Terri is in a coma or comatose-like state.

REALITY
None of Terri’s doctors currently maintain that she is in a coma. Some doctors believe that Terri is in a persistent vegetative state while others disagree and believe that she is “minimally conscious.” Most Americans have seen footage of Terri interacting with her mother by now and it is hard to ignore the way in which she appears to light up at the sound of her mother’s voice.

Important note:

The definition of PVS in Florida Statue 765.101:
Persistent vegetative state means a permanent and irreversible condition of unconsciousness in which there is:

(a) The absence of voluntary action or cognitive behavior of ANY kind.
(b) An inability to communicate or interact purposefully with the environment.

MYTH

Terri is on life support. Terri requires machines to live.

REALITY

To state that Terri is on life support or that she requires machines to live implies that Terri is dependent upon what has traditionally been considered life support, such as a ventilator, heart machine, or kidney dialysis.

Terri is a healthy woman with a disability and she is not hooked up to any machines as has been widely reported. She breathes on her own and merely receives nutrition and hydration through a feeding tube, much the same as a baby is sustained by the nutrition he or she receives through a bottle.

MYTH

Terri’s parents refuse to let her go and allow her to die.

REALITY

Terri is not terminally ill — she is a healthy woman with a disability. To induce someone’s death by denying him or her nutrition and hydration is an act of starvation. Terri’s parents have asked for Michael Schiavo to step down as her legal guardian and allow them to care for their daughter.

MYTH

Terri’s case is a right-to-die case.

REALITY

This claim is disputed. Terri’s parents and siblings say that she does not want to be starved to death and are asking the courts to allow them to care for her.

MYTH

Death by starvation and dehydration is painless.

REALITY

Florida law does not allow a dog to be subject to death by starvation, so why should Terri, a human being, be sentenced to such a death?

In Wesley J. Smith’s book, Forced Exit, St. Louis neurologist William Burke said:

“A conscious person would feel it [dehydration] just as you or I would. They will go into seizures. Their skin cracks, their tongue cracks, their lips crack. They may have nosebleeds because of the drying of the mucous membranes, and heaving and vomiting might ensue because of the drying out of the stomach lining. They feel the pangs of hunger and thirst. Imagine going one day without a glass of water! Death by dehydration takes ten to fourteen days. It is an extremely agonizing death.”

I still fully endores what I said.

However, the doctors MUST demonstrate some restoration of her physical body. Heck, even you as an individual, if you can restore her physical body, I would support it.

Karen Quinlan had a very intact cerebral cortex.

I have an abormal functioning thyroid gland with no hope for recovery.

The authors of the article describing Karen Quinlan's pathological findings draw attention to the limitations of our understanding of the neuroanatomical basis for human consciousness. At one time consciousness was though to reside in the cortex, then came our understanding of the limbic system and the role of the brain stem reticular formation in cerebral arousal. The findings in Karen Quinlan's brain suggested that the thalamus played a more crucial role in consciousness and awareness than was previously thought.
