Mormons believe murder isn't covered by the atonement, neither is adultery.

I have a Mormon publication that says otherwise.
In fact, the blood atonement was specifically for murder. It was the only way a murderer could redeem himself, by having his own blood spill on the earth.
I'll be happy to dig out the publications later; my wife is sleeping now and I'm not going in to wake her up. However, I will cite them later. :-)

Doctrines of Salvation
Sermons and Writings of Joseph Fielding Smith Vol. I
Compiled by Bruce are McConkie
from pg 135
Beginning of quote
"Joseph Smith taught that there were certain sins so grievous that man may commit, that they will place the transgressor beyond the power of the atonement of Christ. If these offenses are committed, then the blood of Christ will not cleanse them from their sins even though they repent. Therefore their only hope is to have their own blood shed to atone, as far as possible, in their behalf." [Joseph Fielding Smith]
This is scriptural doctrine, and is taught in all the standard works of the church. [Bruce R. McConkie]

Pages 133-135 are good reading too!
