CA: New housing code for dogs inspires big sale at pet stores
The San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Friday, January 7, 2005 | Steve Rubenstein, Chronicle Staff Writer

People were going to the doghouses in San Francisco on Thursday, and the doghouses were ready.

Doghouses, in fact, are 20 percent off. It's the big Board of Supervisors doghouse sale.

"We're ready,'' said Susan Fry, manager of the Pet Food Express store at Stonestown, which has taken the proposed city doghouse ordinance most seriously, as befits an establishment that sells $300 doghouses.

I wish I could recall them. I only work there, not live there. I believe the stats are that over 67% of San Francisco's work force comes from out of town. And, sadly, the only way you can afford to own a home in California these days is to work in S.F., where the salaries are high enough to cover the house payments. When I did live there, though, I voted for conservative candidates, so I was giving it the old college try.

As for leaving - that is in my four-year plan.

Ernest -- what beach??

I am not really ON THE BEACH, but I can drive down to PCH and cruise between Long Beach and Newport Beach.... I like Dog Beach and Huntington Beach and the Bolsa Chico Birdie Park, got some good pictures of Brown Pelicans working for their dinner...

My dog refuses to stay outside for than 30 seconds and wouldn't dream of going into a dog house.

For him, our house is the dog house. We are allowed to live in it with him.

As for the hour of walking a day, be glad you have a dog to make you do it, it's good for both of you.

I walk my dog when I wouldn't dream of walking except for his need and urging.

My dogs, shepard mix, spaniel mix, have dog beds. They prefer to sleep on the chairs, loveseats, couches and beds. All these locations are okay with me because they also will sleep on the floor beside me when my back is acting up.

"This week, the supervisors gave preliminary approval to a new law requiring pet owners to provide up-to-code doghouses for dogs kept outside. The ordinance says doghouses must be clean, dry, raised off the ground and big enough for the dog to "lie in a comfortable position.''

Well that's all well and good, what happens if the dog doesn't like the dog house and won't go in it??

I bought a dog house for my dog, she hates it. Won't go inside.

I had that problem with my daughters Golden, so we got a rug for her beside the fireplace.
