CA: New housing code for dogs inspires big sale at pet stores
The San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Friday, January 7, 2005 | Steve Rubenstein, Chronicle Staff Writer

People were going to the doghouses in San Francisco on Thursday, and the doghouses were ready.

Doghouses, in fact, are 20 percent off. It's the big Board of Supervisors doghouse sale.

"We're ready,'' said Susan Fry, manager of the Pet Food Express store at Stonestown, which has taken the proposed city doghouse ordinance most seriously, as befits an establishment that sells $300 doghouses.

"This week, the supervisors gave preliminary approval to a new law requiring pet owners to provide up-to-code doghouses for dogs kept outside. The ordinance says doghouses must be clean, dry, raised off the ground and big enough for the dog to "lie in a comfortable position.''

Insanity. What will SF regulate next?

Now if I can only get the wife to provide me with shelter when she locks me out...

For my dog, that would be my bed.

You know every dog I have ever owned would never go in the dog house we provided for it. They would either stay on the covered patio or by the large tree in the back. It was a waste of money. It would really make me mad if I lived where they made it a law that I had to buy one.

"You have to wash the bowls regularly, or bacteria can grow,'' Lim said. "A dog can get acne on its chin from a dirty bowl.''

What can it get from licking its own butt? San Francisco Board of Stupidvisors - Marxism in action.

I love Dogs....but.....

At present, Petco offers no fewer than 24 different doghouses, including the Chalet ($300), the Mini-Mansion ($270), the Bed-and-Breakfast with Internal Lounge ($270), the Dog Palace ($180) and several models with rooftop decks, accessible by ladder, for more dexterous doggies.

SoCal...they would probably do a special order for you!

Well, at least they are not requiring the dog house to have a skylight, although it seems you can buy those too.

There was an ad right under the article:

If you ever watch Animal Precinct, you would see that people are stupid and maybe, unintentionally cruel. Actually the Bay Area is the first in the nation to try non euthanasia of pets. One thing about SF, it rains a lot and it's cold. If people are going to have a dog, the least they can do is give it some kind of shelter, and if they are too stupid to do it on their own, they need some education along with some enforcement. Why they need this, is maybe bcause as SF'ers, they're stupid

Ah, San Francisco...the city that regulates what it should leave alone and IGNORES what is most important. The city's spending on the homeless crisis here JUST LAST YEAR was 100 MILLION dollars. Yet, every morning I walk up the stairs from the train station and step around used food, bum clusters and have to run an obstacle course of people begging. This dog house deal is just another example of a board of stupidvisors that has lost their focus!

My dogs, a Golden and a Husky both have sheepskin beds and get treated like royalty by the family. Of course, I do the heavy lifting, feeding, cleaning up, and an hour of walking a night.

I'll take the Chalet and make do.

In a city with a "booming homeless population", non-euthenasia of pets is not a crucial issue...only an emotionally charged, political one, which is where the focus seems to be.

Yeah - and you can't walk a block down Market Street without at least 8 people asking for money, getting in your damn face. But by all means, give them money every month. Because that will encourage them to get on their feet.

Meanwhile, I can trip over huge cracks in the sidewalks every day, nearly breaking my neck, because the City has time to throw a "reception" for the one-year anniversary of all the gay couples it fraudulently married, but can't fix the %^&*% streets!

Oh yes, Mr. "Any Twosome" Gavin Newsome....the man is an imbecile of the highest degree! That reception prompted me to send him and email and all I received in return was an automated response. I wonder what it would take to recall the MAYOR of a city? Hell, it worked with the Governor!

yeah well, the "homeless" are getting welfare and choosing to live on the streets for the freedom and the drugs.

That city would haul your ass off to jail if you so much as worked late and didn't feed your cat on time -- but they'd more than happily yank the feeding tubes out of Teri Schiavo's arm. Honest - they're calling it "assisted suicide" out here.
