Did he have a bronchial infection or
fluid in lungs or just an obstruction?
Sorry to ask for details... but husband is an MD
and I can't respond accurately.

Tracheotomies are actually not unusual in advanced Parkinson's disease as the effectiveness of coughing is as much impaired as are other movements. He may be placed on a ventilator for a time depending upon the degree of pneumonia, and resultant hypoventilation/hypoxia/hypercarbia.

It's a lovely hymn.
(Would you know if there's a good recording of it available? -- I've never heard it, but I've wanted to since I saw lines quoted in various Anne of Green Gables books, which I've read repeatedly over the past 40+ years.)

What an experience for your DIL. I guess you know there was quite a crowd. I could see him, but recall being rather far away.

Well MadIvan this morning posted a story saying they think he had Bacterial Pneumonia. And because of his Parkinsons he didn't have the muscle power to cough to clear his lungs and airways so they did a tracheotomy. I believe that is what happened but I am sure your husband would know more about it.

I recall just within the last year or two the Pope's visit to Canada, the crowds and a Youth Camp or Youth project that he developed and nurtured for many years.
The faces of the people that were photographed during that visit were joyous.

Seeing him dancing with little children liked that, only goes to show that even the Pope has an inner child that wants to come out and play now and again. I'm a non-Catholic, but I do understand that this Pope had made protecting protecting the unborn from abortion, his "life work".

My prayers too go out for the Pope. He is an authentic hero and has been a tremendous influence for all that is good.
I will never forget how he stood up to the communist powers in Poland during those shipyard strikes that led to Polish Freedom.
