Lawmakers: Writer May Have CIA Leak Info Thursday, February 24, 2005 WASHINGTON Two lawmakers have sent a letter to the U.S. attorney saying a White House reporter who recently resigned following questions about his identity and background may have information vital to the investigation into who leaked a CIA operative's name to the press. Reps. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., and John Conyers, D-Mich., the ranking Democrats on the House Rules Committee and House Judiciary Committee, respectively, wrote a letter to Patrick Fitzgerald (search), the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, saying the Chicago attorney's office may need to subpoena the journal of reporter James Guckert (search ). The journal recounts Guckert's days covering the White House. According to Conyers and Slaughter's letter, Guckert had access to a memo revealing the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame (search).

Pure political theater by Democrat Moonbats!
Welcome to the Democrats Meet Freedom of the Press.
I agree, when is it going to stop?
Didn't perky Katie nail them on this yesterday morning? Got them to admit it was pure speculation?
Guckert was also the second shooter on the grassy knoll!
ping
Right after Sandy "Pants" Berger is subpoenaed.
He also caused the bad weather that downed Paul Wellstone's plane. On orders from Karl Rove, of course.
I also hear that Guckert killed the messiah. Pass it on.
/Sarcasm
I still think Wilson set the whole thing up to cover up his boondoggle in Africa. The WSJ editorialized something to this effect yesterday.
Thanks for posting this article.
WHO CARES? (who revealed her name). The ONLY people who did not know who Valerie was were the AMERICAN PUBLIC.
Everyone else on the planet already knew.
Her business card said, "Valerie Plame, SECRET SPY"
Ol Sandy did nothing but steal national security documents...
Nothing to see here, move along, move along...
Everybody let's get the gay guy who asked the president soft ball questions, attack attack!!
Watergate, Watergate!!!
-insert Howard Dean scream here-
Editor and Publisher seems to have a real "dog in this hunt," and I'm beginning to wonder what it is.
huh? Convoluted craziness. On one hand, we 'know' Miller & Cooper have the info but we're supposed to think it's OK for them to not to divulge it. OTOH, Conyers & Slaughter 'think' Gannon 'may' have the info, so the answer is to subpoena his journal and that's perfectly OK?
Maybe their subscribers are ticked about being outdone by a realtive newcomer/amatuer?
We're watching the death of a political party here, folks. I'll make the popcorn...
I can state positively that Valerie Plame had no secret status.
She told me that when she was working undercover with me in the back seat of my 84' Lincoln Town car.
Her exact words were ... "This is the first time I've been undercover, in a Lincoln Town car ".
EX=PROSECUTOR: PLAME LEAK NOT ILLEGAL
Secondly...
CIA officer named prior to column
And last but not least, it wasn't even a CIA memo...
Sources said the CIA is angry about the circulation of a still-classified document to conservative news outlets suggesting Plame had a role in arranging her husband's trip to Africa for the CIA. The document, written by a State Department official who works for its Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR), describes a meeting at the CIA where the Niger trip by Wilson was discussed, said a senior administration official who has seen it.CIA officials have challenged the accuracy of the INR document, the official said, because the agency officer identified as talking about Plame's alleged role in arranging Wilson's trip could not have attended the meeting.
This isn't news...just the Democrats whining on and on as usual.
