What a bunch of garbage. I guess he doesn't remember the woman who played his wife in Independence day. I believe his love interest in MIB2 was black as well.
I guess Will never saw "Catwoman." (For that matter, neither did the rest of America...)
Read this month's issue of Elle. The direction of the movie admitted that he wouldn't cast Smith with a white woman because it was too distracting.
Why would a black couple be a problem worldwide?
Why would an interracial couple be a problem in the U.S.?
Are there that many racists about in either environment?
"Are We There Yet?"
Studios spend millions studying demographics, and how their advertising influences them. I'm sure that they have studies that tell them, to within a few thousand, how many caucasian men age 18-27 saw the ad for 'Hitch' on MTV at 8:21pm last Wednesday. And, likely, how influenced by the trailer they were to go see the movie. Also, did they bring a date, and how influenced were both of them by the coming attractions....
If their surveys show that whichever demographic group (pick one: M, F, old, young, white, black) wants to see lefthanded hispanic hunchbacked lesbians in a wild-west shootemup, and there are indications that there's a buck to be made.....guess what will be coming to a theater near you.
Who cares about racism. Follow the dollars.
Garsh darn it Will, you have plenty of money, make your own movie! If not, then stfu.
Does ANYONE any longer give a crap if the leading man and women in any movie is Black, White, Asian or Latino? Who even notices that any longer?
Hey WILL, you Jesse and Al go in hiding, write a War & Peace type novel and leave us alone with your silly ideas that ....ooze of racism.
How about an Asian woman? :-)
Boy do I despise this guy. He must have learned race baiting from good 'ol Jesse or Reverand Al and now he's free to utter this BS on his own.
Hey Will, how about a sequel to Wild Wild West, lol?
There is probably something to this. The studios do a lot of research as to what is palatableto the moviegoing public.
It's ok for a film to explore interracial issues, on balance, if that's what the film is about. If that issue is peripheral to the movie, the suits may decide that the casting is distracting.
As far as a black co-star, marketing info might suggest that the studio would cast a wider net by casting a black lead and a latin lead than if it were both black leads or both latino leads.
Smith is probably sincere and fairly accurate here.
i realize i'm being un pc,but is anyone else sick and tired of hearing black actors and actresses complain about discrimination/prejudice?
Good Grief, these people are so wrapped up in BS it's not funny.
Hitch is a very enjoyable movie. Took a Date with me to see it, first date I have had in almost 15 years.
The movie was the highlight of the evening :)
That must be the reason why Good Times was cancelled - after 5 years.
Will Smith is correct! But it is not about racism. It is about politics.
If a black male lead is paired with a white female lead then I expect that the movie will be full of self-righteous, leftist pompous preaching about the evils of racism and joys and glories of interacial marriage. I just want fun not the typical leftist agenda movie.
If both leads are black then I will expect the movie to be a typical hip-hop, high fiving, hubcap spinning "black" movie pandering to the black sub-culture (gangstas and guns etc). Again, I just want fun. I do not identify with or find anything fun about gangstas.
It is not racism. It is Hollywood suffering from their own political predictable agenda.
This is OUTRIGHT false.
I saw the movie. The VERY FIRST SCENE shows how Hitch gets a white man and an oriental woman together.
The last I read was that this movie was doing quite well in the United States, while using an interracial combo IN THE FIRST SCENE!
