Thx...actually, this was more a matter of a poster (me) following the general evolution of thought from previous posts and commenting on the current article with an eye to that general evolution of thought (as it was addressed by other posts on FR).

In this particular case, there were articles by Daniel Pipes and others that spoke to the frustration among many in the nation as to the perceived lack of "clear speaking" regarding various events pertaining to the war on terror.

I would wonder instead what kind of manifestation of poor manners it is to troll from thread to thread in search of possible (hopeful) violations against such prohibitions of bad manners.

I don't mean you, Howlin, but no one likes a tattletale. They are always exercising the worse kind of manners. What kind of small mind is it that runs to the teacher when an ever so small breach of good taste "might" have occurred.

Well, I think that summarizes my perspective in this tea pot tempest.

It's against forum rules to carry "incidents" from thread to thread. / If you get involved in an argument in one thread, it's considered poor manners to restart the previous argument in the middle of an unrelated thread.

I think you misunderstand... when I wrote "incidents" this morning, I was referring to the crimes etc mentioned in the articles posted and the thoughts of their authors, not arguments on those threads (if there were any).

Oh, you don't; then who?

What kind of small mind is it that runs to the teacher when an ever so small breach of good taste "might" have occurred.

I didn't run to anybody except the people involved.

If I had, I would have hit abuse on your #9; but I'm of the mind that people's post like that should stand so others will be able to see the "manners" on display.

Ok- I'll risk it (change of topic).

My brain has difficulty ever wrapping around the whole kid-glove treatment the Saudi's get- no matter what. I seem to recall we don't get an enormous amount of oil from them- but obviously many other countries do- plus we do a lot of other business with them. So I've surmised if we really got tough with them- the ramifications would have a negative effect on the global economy- hence our economy.

It simply doesn't make sense to treat them with such deference when they are subsidizing the Hate America mantra...

Oh, you don't; then who?

Oh...I assumed a much smaller person actually tattled to you. But you are saying it was you. That you were that little person.

And I guess you didn't notice that I also apologized to the person who launched the first volley of personal attacks. And I presume you didn't follow the whole thread.

I don't usually recommend life-style changes. But, in your case, I'll take the risk: if you could lighten up some (OK, a lot), I think you might have a future as a commedienne. But first, you must stop taking yourself so seriously.

Are you under the impression that people can't read threads they aren't pinged to?

Why would somebody tattle to ME? I'm perfectly capable of reading threads myself.

And speaking of "little persons," your number 9 qualifies you are one, whether you apologized or not.

Like I said, let it stand. People will see who has the "manners" here.

Oh, cheese and crackers, School Marm...don't make me stay after school. I'll admit, unlike you, I am just a poor little human being. I guess I'll never be well-mannered enough to be a school marm.

But, School Marm? What is ill-mannered about "duck heads."

It'll take someone of your sophistication and knowledge of, well, adult things, to tell me what is wrong with "duck heads."

Freddie...the thought police may be the thought police (ie NAZI's), but they still have eyes.

But even if the NAZI's don't like it...it is terminally cute.

But more importantly, were the NAZI's far right or far left? Or neither?

Interesting question. I have asked myself that one numerous times and no answer. The question istelf makes me wonder why we need almost desperately, to give evil a name as if naming it, will provide a handle on how to deal with it. There are theories. One is that both ends of the extreme actually join and form a circle...that evil is not bi-polar, neither left nor right-wing. Hitler, I find from all of my reading, and that includes Fromm, 'The Anatomy of Destructiveness' and more recently Mein Kampf, was a chamelion, he continuously repeated that the superiority of the Aryan race was bestowed 'by the Lord' upon the German people yet in the same breath almost, railed against religion.
Some members of the Nazi Party openly went to church, others abandoned their faith totally. Many of the members of the party who prayed on Sunday were quite aware of Hitler's plans for the Final Solution.
I think perhaps evil is as evil does. Was Lucifer political?

I agree (except for that strange bi-polar stuff) about it being a circle.

But there are many here that will disagree with the circle analogy. The left says that all evil is on the right and the right says the its on the left.

In fact, this is an incendiary topic. Watch!

So I've surmised if we really got tough with them- the ramifications would have a negative effect on the global economy- hence our economy.

Anti-Terror Fight Has to Be a Marathon Run on Wilsonian Principle, Not Cheap Oil

Thomas L. Friedman
YaleGlobal, 8 February 2003
http://yaleglobal.yale.edu/display.article?id=913&page=1

(snip)
"Context is everything. Put Muslims or Jews or Hindus or Buddhists in a democratic context, and trust me, you will get and bring the best out of them. And context is exactly what has been ignored in the Middle East for the last fifty years. We have treated the Arab world as if it were simply a big dumb gas station. And we cared simply about two things: That the pump was open, the price was low, and in later years, that they be nice to the Jews. Just be nice to the Israelis, keep the pump open and the price low and you can do whatever you want out back. You can do whatever you want in your schools out there, in your newspapers, in your mosques, in your education, in your politics, in your jails; do what ever you want out back; just keep the price low and be nice to the Israelis. Well we paid a huge price for that on 9/11, because what hit us was what came from out back.

People say to me, "Friedman have you lost your senses? You want there to be an election in Saudi Arabia? Do you realize what happens if there is an election in Saudi Arabia? They will have a press that will spew hate, anti-Americanism, and anti-Semitism. They will have charities that will give money to the most radical, rabid fundamentalist groups and the most retrograde educators. They will turn a blind eye to terrorism nurtured within their midst." Well good morning merry sunshine. What do we have now? No, no, no. I want there to be an election in Saudi Arabia. I want the fundamentalists to win, because I want them to have to pay in retail for their fundamentalism. Now they pay wholesale. No, I want to look people in the eye and say, "My people, we are not going to sell oil and gas anymore to the infidels because they are infidels. Now that does mean if you're planning to send your kid to Yale next year, that's not on. And by the way if you haven't seen Disney World yet, you're too late." Oh, that's when we're going to trigger what we need to trigger. And that is not a war with Islam, but it is a war within Islam.
