Secession, if followed by invasion, conquest, occupation and ultimately cultural cleansing, is a terrible thing.

Regarding the northern blue states, it would only be fair.

The Blue States should secede if they want to, but I suspect that they are all talk & no action. Secession is after all one of the founding principles of the Republic.

A better solution would be to re-locate the people with "blue state" mentality out of the country permanently and we keep everything for ourselves. We can then get back to the business of running this country as it should be, a republic in which the Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution are upheld as they were intended in the first place.

Reminds me of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, in which he writes about one planet's solution to useless parasites. They constructed two space arks, and told everybody that their sun was going to explode, or that a planet-gobbler was on the way, or that whatever it would be, it was gonna be really bad. Ark-B was reserved for telephone sanitizers, fashion consultants, PR execs and the like, whereas Ark-A was reserved for the rest of the planet.

Ark-B was sent off first, with the explanation that it was taking a lot of time to round up the working people for Ark-A, and that Ark-B needed to get going. Ark-B rocketed off (pre-programmed to crash-land safely on another planet with no hope of repair), and the rest of the planet stayed and lived happily ever after...for awhile...until a particularly virulent disease, spread by telephone receivers, spread wildly through the population due to the lack of telephone sanitizers, and the planet's homesteaders were quickly wiped out.

But barring that unhappy ending, we could try the same thing. Red staters can tell Blue staters, "You were right. We were wrong. 'The Day after Tomorrow' is absolute fact, and we all need to bolt to Mexico. But you ethnic and wymin's studies majors, class-action lawyers, NEA teachers, Hollywood actors, and fellow culturists are absolutely critical to recreate our culture down there, so you go first, and we'll stay back here to round up all your drug stashes, self-mutilation kits and Manifesto collections, and haul'em down for you. Don't worry about finding the way, the illegals will guide you back to their old haunts. Don't worry about all the military you'll see at the border. They're there to assist you across the border. So Bon Voyage, and we'll turn out all the lights when we leave..."

.....there's little doubt in my mind that the country will break apart, but it won't be over political differences......it will be over race......I expect blacks will get the South, Latinos will get the Southwest, Anglo-European Judeo-Christians will get the Midwest & West,the Northeast will be diverse ect. ect.......there may be independant city states thrown in.....ie a gay-lesbian-vegan-eco-socialist collective would run San Francisco for instance......or say Miami would be the capital of Carib-America.....

Why not just let the red counties seceed? There are some fine Blue areas in red states. Geez, even most of California is Blue on the map. It's just the big population zones that are red.

I wonder what percentage of the Democratic votes in the country came from their top 10 counties or congressional districts. I mean, if you take out Manhattan, Boston, Bay Area, Chicago/Cook County, Detroit/Wayne County, Seattle, Philly, etc., what do the dems have left? A few scattered Indian reservations, and long island?

Actually, this article makes sense with two exceptions. Parts of Canada, like Alberta, are conservative. Likewise with a lot of the Blue States. Take away Philly and Pa is a Red State, take away NYC and NY is a Red State,etc... Even though NJ will NEVER go Red again, the NW portion where I live is ultra-conservative. They can have all of RI though.

I just read your article “Blue States Secession: One Southerner’s Perspective” from the Free Republic web site and, as a “liberal Yankee,” I was astonished to discover that you and I are in total agreement on the question of red/blue state succession. I think it’s a great idea for dozens of reasons of my own. It’s pretty clear that people from the north and south have very little in common when it comes to values and priorities (don’t worry, as a non-conservative I don’t feel compelled to lecture you on why I think mine are better and yours are all screwed up.) So yeah, you make a good case all your own about why the civil war should never have been fought. The north should have let the south keep your slaves and your own particular brand of slave-based “Capitalist Red economy” and “democracy.” So do me a favor, ok? Push the idea of succession from the north as hard in your neck of the woods as I plan to in mine. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll both be lucky enough to see it happen. Who knows, maybe this is the one topic that EVERYONE in the nation can agree on? Sincerely, AA

The key question is "what will the blue states do to have a military force". My son graduated from Parris Island, and every member of his platoon was a Southron.

Wouldn't a Southen secession leave the North-east defenseless, or would they rely on Canada for a military presence?
