The thing to remember about AIDS is that it's a viral disease. There are no cures for viral diseases, yet. The research on AIDS is paying off in understanding viruses. If a final cure for AIDS is found, it is likely there will be cures for many other diseases as a result.
Also, by understanding how viruses work, in the future it may be possible to manipulate the genes of a virus to cause it to repair human genetic deficiencies.

What makes the HIV virus so dangerous (at least to me) is its ability to mutate and gain resistance to current anti-viral drugs.

About a year and a half ago, I invested in a company (Vaxgen) that was working on an HIV vaccine. They made it all the way to Phase III trials before they found out the vaccine had little effect. The guys and gals at Vaxgen thought that their vaccine would be able to handle mutations in the HIV virus...but it didn't.

Stop Aids in this country without spending a dime. No drugs and No homosexual sex and you get rid of 90 percent of Aids.

You can't say the same thing about Cancer. And 50 people die of cancer for every one of Aids.

Stop all funding for Aids.
Increase funding for Cancer.
