The Islamic state that existed 1,400 years ago cannot be recreated, says a Muslim scholar Israr Ahmad.
"The first Islamic state was created in a tribal setup; today the world has changed," said Ahmad. "So we can form a modern Islamic state based on the principles of our religion but cannot recreate what existed 1,400 years ago."
Ahmed, who heads an orthodox Muslim religious party and campaigns tirelessly for establishing an Islamic government in Pakistan, made this observation during a debate on a private Pakistani television channel.
The debate and Ahmed's admission both reflect the major change that the Islamic world is going through since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States. The world's response to the attacks has started a new debate among Muslims: Should they accept their religion as interpreted by their clerics, or find their own answers to the problems they confront?
Muslim liberals who for decades allowed clerics to interpret Islam for them are now confronting the clerics. And they are being helped by liberal-minded rulers.
"Don't be silent when you hear something you disagree with. Speak up," says Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf. In several recent interviews, Musharraf criticized clerics who use Friday sermons to talk politics. "When you hear a cleric discussing politics in his Friday sermon, stop him. Tell him you are here to say your prayers, not to hear politics," Musharraf told ordinary Muslims.

Read my apology above.
Isn't it embarrassing when that happens? I have been guilty of the same. You are forgiven!
yeah.
It is too bad we have to battle our own here, so we mis-interpet.
Freedom44 (no relation, note the different spelling) is a big-time apologist for the moon god worshippersand american-killers. So I see his type around every corner!
Keep up the good fight (and I have your life of muhammed (may he burn forever in hell between 2 pigs) bookmarked (along with the bunch of bookmarks I keep quickly at the ready).
'Night Nerks! Glad to meetcha and sorry again for the misunderstanding!
A key to defusing Islam is the liberation of their women.
Why banning the burka in public schools and government offices is so critical.
Thanks for the down under perspective. You guys are SO lucky to be ahead in this game. Unfortunately, in the US, Canada and EUrabia there are already too many Islamic "true believers," both known and anonymous, and it's a lot easier to blend in, especially in the large cities with sizable Muslim communities.
Just curious... do you have groups like the ACLU that will defend the enemies of the state over there?
"...do you have groups like ACLU..."
In one State, Victoria, we have an organization known as the Equal Opportunity Commission. Established by the left-wing Premier of Lebanese descent, a member of this organization (with a staff of only two or three I might add) infiltrated a seminar held by Catch The Fire Ministries conducted to make comparisons between the Christian and muslim religions. Passages were read from the koran. (Never flattering to islam.)
Two lay preachers were ultimately brought before the court by an islamic group to answer charges of religious vilification. They have been found guilty and an appeal will be lodged. The entire story can be found on the site:

Thanks for the info, Fred.
I didn't know about the Australian "Equal Opportunity Commission" or that they were behind the preacher trial.
