But asked if the European Union embargo would be lifted, Mr Schroeder's blunt reply was: "It will happen. We believe it is justified to trust in the new (Chinese) leadership and give them this possibility."

I seriously can't believe the logic in all of this. This isn't about weapons, the EU is essentially endorsing the China in an attack on Taiwan and subsequently the US and Japan.

Puhleeeeeeeeese, the French have already been selling to China despite the embargo. It didn't stop them with Iraq.. any PAPER agreement will not stop France from doing any damn thing they want to, when they want to, no matter what the world says.. France needs to be the first on the wheel of axis of *ssholes to be dealt with.. The world is not as stupid as Maddy Albright.

"any PAPER agreement will not stop France from doing any damn thing they want to,"

Agreed. Now, we've got to figure out a way to stick it to them and stick it to them good. Frankly I'm tired of being on the recieving end when it comes to France's BS...time they get a taste of their own medicine.

"The US will impose economic sanctions on Germany and France."

I believe Bush stated very clearly that he would not stand in the way should the US Congress vote to embargo arms sales to European contries that sell to China.

Schroeder and Chirac MUST pay a price for this. Don't buy Germany or France and write your representitive.

Hell, appeasement worked for Germany in the past why should Mein Whorer Schroeder abandon appeasement now?

We need to learn who our "new' allies are and support them accordingly. Obviously "old" Europe should not be high on our list.

"...why should...Schroeder abandon appeasement now?"

It probably has more to do with Germany's 12% unemployment and their upcoming election.

Still, it shows to what lengths the Franco-German axis is willing to go in order to hurt the US and enrich itself. From a very practical, world political standpoint, the American government (Congress & executive) better make sure that both pay a price or risk even worse behavior. The French and German governments clearly want some kind of conflict with the US, be it economic or otherwise, it gets them votes, right, and maybe drives the satelite EU nations closer to their camp. The ball is really in Congress' court right now. They are the ones who can impact any number of treaites, or impose a military embargo.
