As a spectator, I would have warned the perp after the second punch. Would have killed him if he continued. A man that big can be considered lethal with just his fists. In the Deep South where I live, I would have gotten a medal for dispatching the animal.
What would you have them do? Jump up and tickle him with their fists? He could have taken them all, and then someone might have ended up dead.
Without a gun, I wouldn't mess with a situation like that. It doesn't make me a coward, it makes me practical.

where did that nutjob observation come from? they used the star fleet prime directive of non-interference. now maybe if the bad guy was pounding on a child or a senior citizen, then yes, jump in by all means. but given the characters in play, the crowd gets an A+ for this kobayashi maru scenario.
