The Florida Department of Children and Families has moved to intervene into the legal battle over the life of Teri Schiavo. Details of the agency involvement in the case were not immediately available.
The DCF involvement came hours after Florida Governor Jeb Bush told reporters that he would seek a means to intervene in this case.
George Felos, who represents Teri's husband Michael, criticized the DCF move, saying it 'reeks of the intervention of politics' in this case and is an affront to the court.
David Gibbs, attorney for Teri's mother and father, countered there were serious allegiations of abuse in the case. The Schlindlers have accused their son-in-law of mistreating his wife, Michael has emphatically denied the accusations.
Speaking at an afternoon news conference in Tallahassee, Gov. Bush said he was exploring options to block the removal of the feeding tube and called his involvement 'a work in progress.'
Bush said he had received tens of thousands of emails and telephone calls from supporters ecouraging him to keep Terri Schiavo alive. The governor said he is working with his legislative staff to see what can be done.
'People with deep faith and big hearts are concerned, as I am about the circusmstances that Ms. Schiavo is in,' the governor continued.
'I want them to know that I will do what I can.'

Actually cuter, I think. I really like Jeb. Oh how I wish we could get one more Bush into the White House.
Asking St. Jude's help, here:
Most holy apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you, universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of. Please pray for Terry, she is so helpless and alone. Please make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Please come to her assistance in these great needs, that she may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all her necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly let her continue to be fed, to live, and to have visits from her priest and family. And I promise, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of these great favors, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you.
Lord God Almighty, we know that you hold us in Your hands, and that the very hairs on our head are numbered...We beg You to spare Terri for her family's love...we beg You to intervene for her and change the hearts of the authorities who stand in judgement, please remind them that they too may be helpless someday...Lord God, we pray for her deliverance from this sentence of death, please...free her from her husband who no longer loves her, free her from the dreadful system that would cruelly kill her by depriving her of water and food...Lord God, we beg in the name of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen
I think there is some strong legal ground on Teri's 14th Amendment being infringed by this action, but youre right, no time to let down or give up now..
We're not out of the woods, but it sure feels good to let the breath out for a few hours!
Forgive me if this has been asked and answered, but WHY did it take this long for someone to enter a case??? WHY!?
That is a very wise choice. It's not that all are bad, of course, but it is best to be informed and knowledgeable, and to be very involved. If you run across a physician who objects to your questions and involvement, consider it a red flag.
Even if they do manage to kill her, let it be history that it was the hardest one yet.
MY heart really goes out ot Terri and her family.
This is soooo horrific.
Terri is in my prayers.
I hope with all my heart you had a Power of Attorney for Health care done. No gray areas as in a living will.
I don't think they're going to be able to pull it off...I really don't. The Lord didn't bring it this far to not take it all the way...I wouldn't second guess Him if he ruled otherwise...He's heard our prayers and He will now do what He knows is best...but this just seems to have all the signs of the way he works! Never too early, never too late, always right on time.
Gulp. No. I'll look into that. Thankfully, however, I have a good, sane, Christian family who'd never do these kinds of hideous things.
My personal guess is that there are many people in power who will be embarassed by what an investigation shows. It would be much nicer for them if the Terri-Albatross that's been hanging around them would just go away. I think some of them are starting to realize that if the story breaks, it will look much better for them if they're on the side of Terri's life than if they're on the side of her murder.
Human greed and selfishness can be amazing. But then, so can human kindness and selflessness...like the people on FR who have kept fighting so hard. I'd hug all of ya if I could! So, consider yourselves hugged.
I'm not advocating violence either, but if the husband were to become, shall we say, incommunicado, that would have to throw at least a few monkey wrenches into the case.
I was reading on another thread last night the other horror stories of people in Terri's place who are being routinely murdered in this fashion...many of them perfectly able to speak their wishes (ehhh, so what?). Some were even capable of painting pictures, walking around, etc. These people are being MURDERED!! So, Terri's fight is not just for Terri...it's for all of the others out there...our seniors (what happened to respect for the Greatest Generation?), our handicapped (would Helen Keller be killed today?), or babies...our helpless. America should NEVER, EVER, *EVER* be a place where things like this happen! EVER!
You're right, it does. I have rarely been hopeful because it seemed too painful of a choice after the last time.
But God is Merciful and to me it is amazing that Terri is still with us at all.
