February 23, 2005 -- The Brooklyn teacher who sent an American soldier demoralizing letters written by sixth-graders apologized yesterday and admitted blame. In a statement issued by the Department of Education, social studies teacher Alex Kunhardt said he regretted offending Pfc. Rob Jacobs.
His statement, however, did not address whether he either coached the students or read their missives which accused soldiers of committing atrocities in Iraq before mailing them.
The DOE, which is sending an apology to Jacobs and his family, declined comment.

"Sorry" doesn't cut it..
Teachers used to be the cream of the crop when I was in public school back in the 50's and 60's. Now a lot of them are sinking toward the bottom of the barrel.
Gob smack the little git.
Scumbag! I hope the soldiers who received these letters pay a visit to this teacher when they get home.
"Sheik Yerbouty" remains one of my favorite tags, along with "Bootyist Monk". Perhaps we also need a "Sheik Yur Munimaykr".
A distant relative..
That much is obvious.
Kids that young could not compose letters such as those without someone helping them. I am sick and tired of our pouring money down that school rat hole and getting things like this for our efforts. Get the NEA out of our school systems.
Pfc's dad is an attorney....and I'm wondering.....
Thankfully, he spoke up and put the fear into these creeps that loathe the military and think we ought to be making nice to the terrorists who want to kill us all.
ABSOLUTELY!!!
Which begs the question.....who?
Either their parents, or the school.
One of the letters publicized was written by a muslim child. I have no doubt he was repeating what he hears at home.
Of course the little p***k coached the students. You expect me to believe a group of 10-11 year olds came up with that crap on their own?
An apology does not go far enough. I expect nothing less than a resignation.
If the guy does not have enough character or responsibility to do that, I suggest we right the school board and demand he be terminated.
I saw it in the post and read most of it from the picture they had. Instead of indoctrinating these kids they should try teaching them how to write. The grammar, scratch outs, misspellings and other mistakes were atrocious, and this from a supposed sixth-grader!
I also believe I should pay more attention to what the hell I am writing. Yeesh!
They're government employees. Nothing more.
Absolutely. They taught kids to love America and be patriotic. They also taught lessons about individuals, not the government, helping people in need.
The teacher is sorry someone complained and he was caught.
Oh, like we don't already know the answer to that one. Of course he coached them to spew his nasty, leftist rhetoric!
This guy should be fired. It's that simple. An apology is not enough. It's probably not a sincere apology anyway.
"They're government employees. Nothing more."
They're unionized government employees who think nothing of using their young charges for advancing their political agenda. They really don't care at all that they may be damaging these young kids, it's all about them.
