Why do you insist in discussing the past?

No one is saying that we should let the whole world in.

The status quo is unnaceptable, we all understand that...but THEY ARE HERE ALREADY, and the one thing that everyone, from every viewpoint on this issue seems to agree on is that a massive, nation-wide roundup of ten million illegal aliens--men, women, and children of every age--is an impossibility.

Now, in order to find a solution, you need to first come to the realization that stopping the ones who aren't here from coming is a completely different issue than what to do about the ones who are already here.

They can start deporting illegal criminals when they are arrested. Send them home! We don't need them. My family doesn't need the association with illegal criminals.

I'm against open borders, illegal immigration, etc....but what do we do, become a police state?

The very openness and relative freedom we have is what attracts these people. If any of us were born on the other side of the border, would we do differently? Mexico is an open sewer. And it's on the other side of the border from what they believe is paradise, our America. I say again, if an accident of birth hadn't put us here, would we not be scheming how to get over?

I'm against the criminals among the illegals, the terrorists who are sneaking in with them, the drain on our services, etc...I even understand the frustrations that make some here want to patrol the border. I live in Tucson.

But these knee jerk cliches, many of them attacking the Mexicans as people, or thinly disguised assaults on their race, isn't going to cut it. My brother does nothing but lambast Bush as a lapdog for Vicente Fox. He was nearly willing to give the presidency to Kerry and the reds over this one issue. Bush is at least trying. And the remedy has to be one that maintains our dignity and compassion as a nation.

Diagnosing the problem loudly and repetitively is one thing. Anybody got a cure? This is at least an effort.
