Iran Quake Death Toll Hits 500
February 23, 2005
SARBAGH, Iran Rescue teams using dogs and heavy machinery pulled more bodies from the ruins of flattened villages in central Iran (search) on Wednesday, raising the death toll from a powerful earthquake to at least 500. The number of dead was expected to climb even higher.
Teams were hampered by bad weather and the mountainous terrain, working in a cold, heavy rain after a night in which temperatures dropped below freezing.
Mohammad Javad Fadaei, deputy governor of Kerman province (search), said more bodies had been discovered. "The death toll is now 500, and there's a possibility that the figure will increase," he told The Associated Press.
Tuesday's magnitude-6.4 quake affected an estimated 30,000 people in several small villages and many survivors were left homeless, living in tents and surviving on food rations.
Search efforts were concentrated in the remote villages of Hotkan, Sarbagh and Dahoueieh, which rescue workers had the most difficulty reaching. Rescue efforts were finished in other villages.
Zehra Mirzaei, 18, looked around her after being pulled Wednesday out from under the rubble in Hotkan.
"This is not my village, this is not Hotkan I wish I had died with the others,"

Allah is punishing them for trying to produce Nukes.
Isnt that what they said about our 3 Hurricanes last year?
"Isnt that what they said about our 3 Hurricanes last year?"
I don't know, but do you want to sink to the level of the Iranian regime?
Of course not: I just mentioned it to point out that what comes around goes around. Mother Nature doesnt discriminate or punish either. I was merely pointing out the ignorance of the Mullahs when they mad e their statement.
The vast majority of Iranians DO know how bad their gov't is.
The Iraqis also have plenty of oil , yet the people there didn't benefit from it. They too knew how terrible their gov't was. As do the N. Koreans.
You are blaming the victims of tyrannical gov'ts.
If you read DoctorZin's daily thread, you'll learn a lot about Iran.....

Okay.
Maybe it was Iranian nuclear test. They use Russian technology, so everything is possible.
From what I've read, the tremor caused by nuclear explosion reveals a distinct pattern on seismographic read-out. It is also shallow, and rarely goes above a magnitude 5.
Many countries have the ability to distinguish the difference, and the world would know pretty quickly if anyone was doing underground testing anywhere.
Looks like Allah shook the ground under their feet. The wacko Jihadist preachers often implore Allah to do this to the Jews and other enemies
The big problem (literally) for Iran is that most residential structures in that country are not designed to the type of earthquake safety standards we're used in the developed world. You'd think that after the tragedy in Bam last year that killed over 26,000 people, the Iranian government would start forcing people to replace and/or reinforce buildings to prevent more tragedies like this.
How very sad!Sorry for the dreaths..and we can pray for the Iranian people...
Islam is the majority and state religion, Christianity in Iran has a long and significant history.
In 2003 about 0.3% of Iran's population are Christians. In 1975 Christians numbered about 1.5% of the total population.
After Sept. 11, thousands of young Iranians took to the streets to march against terrorism.I think if the chance was given to today's Iranian youth they would over throw the government. They have no freedom.Censorship is everywhere.
Well, any gov't that really cared about it's citizens, would take a lot more precautions about construction, if they're located in a very active earthquake zone. And Iran is.
The regime doesn't care about its citizens.

The difference between life before and after the revolution
Do I blame the Iranian people for the Earthquake? No. What I do blame them for is not taking steps to over throw their corrupt government. They have done so before in 1980 and they can do so again but have refused for 20+ years. So when I hear them complain about their conditions it falls on deaf ears. I checked that link and still see no sign that they will take steps to over throw their government. If they wanted to be proactive they would have an insurgency and would be fighting to obtain their freedom. Instead they will only act like Democrates and whine about their condition. To H*ll with them I say until I see some concrete steps, by them, to obtain their freedom.
Well, you've got some errors in your 'facts' & thinking.
First, the minority of Iranians who wanted to overthrow the Shah in 1979, couldn't have done so with out the help of Carter.
Second, the Iranian people HAVE been "taking steps to over throw their corrupt government", they have been for years, that's why so many have died and/or ended up in prison. Apparently you've missed all the demonstrations.
I guess any "complain"(ts) from the N. Koreans falls on your deaf ears, too? How about people in Polish death camps in WWII?
Here's a link to an excellent Flash Movie about a major uprising almost 6 yrs ago....

Just because you have seen "no sign that they will take steps to over throw their government", doesn't mean it hasn't happened, or isn't happening now.
If reading more and watching that flash movie doesn't help you see things differently, then I say, "To H*ll with" you.
You need to pass some history courses before talking about Iran!
Are you OKAY? Have you seen your personal psychologist recently?
What language is that?... Do you know how to pronounce Iran? Have you ever read any thing about Iran in the past 25 yrs ?
Grow up plz
