Dear eleni121

"Moderate Muslims"? That is an oxymoron. It's like "moderate Communist"...can't happen.

Their whole history is replete with violence and blood against those who do not adopt Islam..and their "holy book" urges them to violence against those who will not submit.

I agree. Islam is capable of wearing any mask to achieve its ends. Remember that it is based on a book that is not "inspired" - say as the New Testament, but IS (for them) the uncorrupted verbatim word of God. Read that book and you will find good and bad injunctions. "Let there be no Compulsion in religion" - "Smite them wherever you find them - snip off all their fingertips".

The whole thing is written in a vague language, in verses of jumbled order... without there being any recognized authority. Imams are self-appointed. That means that instead of a broad avenue of love, turn the other cheek, forgiveness... you'll find anything to suit your latest whim... which in the case of this fellow is "appearing" to be moderate and American as apple pie.

Whereas I place no particular doubt on his sincerity, (one would have to read up on past statements made by this individual), I also place no doubt on Bin Laden's sincerity. And one needn't even bother asking which of the two is more popular. Both according to the conflicting verses of the Koran are perfectly entitled to make their respective pronouncements: "Everybody in the land join the caravan of love" - "Kill the infidels wherever you find them."

Read the article again and you might notice that what the man is saying shouldn't even need to be said. It should be obvious. He sounds terribly reassuring, doesn't he? But he's only re-discovering hot water... while already - albeit more subtly - playing the blame game, pinning the problem on the Wahhabis and the Octane Empire. I expect him in a couple of weeks to Blame America for keeping the Wahhabis in power because the USA buys oil there.

All religionists are humans who make mistakes. Never mind the single individuals. Look at the ethos. America (and now my Italy) has seen an influx of immigrants of all religious stripe. Plenty, not all have brought crime. As an Italian speaking to Americans I would not only have to shut up, but rip out my vocal chords and put them in a bottle of formaldehyde, considering our export into your country of the Mafia. But no group has ever brought such large scale and pervasive terrorism (and / or fear of terrorism). Most (but not all) religions seek converts, but none has the concept of Jihad.

In conclusion I would suggest not to be overly swayed by this lone voice in the wilderness. He is espousing a "perfect and sane" Islam that doesn't exist, nay, has never existed.

Islam is what Islam does. And may I remind you that the Chief Imam of Rome (obviously a "sensitive" spot), a graduate of Al Azhar seminary, considered the most prestigious, was ousted for inciting suicide bombing.

There were Muslims from all over Darul Islam listening to this madman. Not a single one flinched.

That is Islam.

just like there are terrible passages of hate and killing in the Old Testement, we don't follow those edicts any longer cause they are no longer relevant.

Those are your words, not mine. I explicitly said the Bible was NOT irrelevant.

And I am a devout Zionist and contribute to many Zionist causes. I have an abiding love for the Jews, whom I consider God's Chosen. And that is why, when I see adherents of a pagan cult murdering buses full of Jewish babies, I am distressed to know that Americans go in the tank for alleged "moderate" Muslims.

If your comments on this thread are an indicator of your attitude, I'm glad the military decided it didn't need your 'help'. That kill em all viewpoint only makes the soldiers in Iraq's job harder.

Get a grip.

I hate those murdering ba**ards just as much as you....but I do have friends that are Muslim and just don't think that way......they really don't and say that part of the Koran does not apply to these modern day........I would think that if they think this, then there must be alot more...

I am not advocating a global war with 1 billion people, so my military service is not an issue. I respect and appreciate your own service in uniform, however, as you have shown, no matter what your intentions are, you will not be there taking the RPG's in your face on the front line. I did not infer cowardice (nice attempt at diversion though) merely pointed out that it is easier to be an advocate of a global war when one is not actually going to be doing any of the fighting. I'd be interested in seeing a poll from our men and women in arms as to how they feel about launching a worldwide military effort against all muslims.

So, you never served. Just as I thought.

You sound just like the DU freaks: "If you're for the war, why don't you enlist?"

And you didn't "infer" cowardice; you implied it.

You may think they are your friends...but you deceive yourself if you believe it.

All over the world, there is muslim money being used to subvert, deceive, undermine and propagandize their way into the mainstream. Don't fall for it. Be vigilant.

IMO you are paranoid about this whole issue....I would love to hear any of the experts or politicians in our party expound the same idea......I really would....if they do, then I'll listen........

Allow your opinions to stand or fall on their own. Playing the vet card and claiming you've been accused of cowardice is chickenshit.

Just MHO.

Nice language. You know what you implied.

And I think it's chicken-**** to go in the tank for a bunch of pagans you consider "moderate" and "courageous."

Gurn, you simply are a man who is out of ideas. Being an advocate of "kill 'em all and let God sort them out" is fine in a firefight but not particularly useful as a foreign policy that may dictate whether our boys in uniform end up in an all out global war with one billion people.

For me, I'd like to see us explore all options before putting that obligation on our armed forces.

Gurn, don't you see the irony here? We are confronted with an enemy who hates us and our way of life and believes the answer is to kill us all.

Most others believe this is wrong and an affront to our definition of human rights, democracy and God.

You're answer is to hate them all and kill them. In a way, you are subscribing the the very same philosophy which you decry.

I would think most Muslims do not subscribe to killing all the infidels.....just like there are terrible passages of hate and killing in the Old Testement, we don't follow those edicts any longer cause they are no longer relevant. I'm not trying to change your mind cause you are obviously a hater of ALL Muslims, but I hope most don't think like this.......

Nowhere in the Old Testament (Tanach) are there commandments to model your life after any of the great Jews mentioned there. And there are quite a few. Some were warriors.

In contrast, Islam rises and falls on just one man named Muhammad. And Muslims are commanded many times in Koran and Hadith to emulate his life. To copy what Islam calls Muhammad's example. Hadith and Koran are chock full of Muhammad's examples. And  many of them from the second half of Muhammad's life are murderous and are about killing non Muslims. How the heck do you think he spread Islam? By the sword! There is nothing in Judaism like this.

Best I can say about Islam is many Muslims ignore the murderous examples in Muhammad's life. But many take them to heart and make Jihad

Divide and conquer may be more productive and less costly than throwing our soldiers in the boiler.

Now that I have read the whole thread, I don't feel all that well about you and the rest of your 'moderate' co-religionists.
This 'religion' gives me the creeps.

well yes I wasn't comparing the bible per se to the Koran but simply trying to respond to Gurn's inane examples....once anyone starts generalizing to an entire population from a small sample......well, let's just say I hope I never become that paranoid.......yeah, let's tackle the ones that take these things to heart but anyone who thinks there are absolutely no moderate Muslims lives in a world of hate and deception

Easier said than done. Muslims are a contentious lot, entranced by terror, disruption, anarchy, chaos, assassinations and explosions.
