sad.
He told us that he felt our pain. Then his incompetence and indifference to national security set us up for unimaginable pain.
We need a Protection From Charlatans Law.
But more important than simply teaching history, is finding a way to convince kids that it important to them beyond school and beyond simply answering trivia questions.
I good knowledge of history gives a person a deeper insight into life.
This has more to do with who people remember than actual history, as are most ranking lists tend to be. No big surprise.
I usually can't stand that Fox morning show. I hate it when two people are talking at once let alone having three or four talking overtop of each other with stupid sound effects layered on top of that!
What's with the sound effects thing?
The poll is stupid because the average American probably isn't even capable of naming more than a handful of presidents prior to Roosevelt (Frankie, not Theo), without a cheat sheet, with the exception of Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln. Republicans name Reagan because that's the first name that pops into their head. Fortunately for us, he really was a great president. Democrates name Clinton, because that's the first name that jumps into their head. Greatness is irrelevant.
If anyone had been asked to give reasons why, I'll bet the ones who voted for Clinton couldn't have answered the question.
"This says more about the public school system than it does about Presidents."
-Exactly. The Gallup Organization and I have wholly different views of what is the definition of an "adult American". It looks to me like they took this poll in the express line at WalMart. Can you spell 'Least Common Denominator'. I didn't think so.
One last comment. No poll on the greatest presidents should be taken seriously if the rating of any presidency is based on the test subjects' living memory. Your place in history is not settled until it actually becomes history (the time before present memory).
I must agree with you, except for the fact that their sentiments are less abrasive than most of the other folks about.
And, yes they did say these things. I had to go to work, so could not listen further to see if any erudite souls on the set corrected them during a commercial...so they could make believe they really knew which way is up.
I wonder how many who took the poll were products of the government schooling system.
In further unintended consequences news, the MSM seems delighted that George Washington 1 polled higher than George Bush 43. However, should it be possible to make this dream come to pass, the MSM shows how clueless it is in the fact that the vast welfare-warfare state they support, including the State Ministry of Indoctrination (er, Dept. of "Education") would be shut down by Washington, who fought a war against government tyranny.
We are told we have "freedom". Would that we could be as free as the Greatest Generation was after it liberated Europe in 1945, or better yet, as free as the soldiers who were mustered from General Washington's army at the end of the successful Revolution.
But many of those who took this poll are ignorant of history, and so ignorant of the freedoms they no longer have, and will never get back.
"If anyone had been asked to give reasons why, I'll bet the ones who voted for Clinton couldn't have answered the question."
-You are 100% right. Most of the dumb*sses who were asked the question reacted as though it were a word association game: president...let me see...I know...clinton. Most Americans couldn't find their own butt if they weren't told it was the large piece of real estate that keeps following them around wherever they go...
Because silly.
All Lincoln did was save the Union and free the slaves. Clinton on the other hand, saved HIMSELF and Freed our Nuclear Secrets for money.

Has anyone here with children or grandchildren actually read any of the social studies/history/global studies text books your children are using? If not, you might want to land a copy.
I'd love to see some of the 1% who voted for Nixon.
"Jimmuh Carter was the worst president, both in and out of office. He was and is a disaster for this country. I just wish the bitter old fart would hurry up and check out."
-Actually, I have read a few historians who couple personal hubris, inability to adapt and change, inbred hatred and corruption and a whole lot of other nasty traits into a pretty persuasive arguement that says LBJ was the all time worst president. His war was the only one we lost. More people died purely for his vanity than any other. He executed the policies developed by a man he hated and derived both his power and popularity on staying quiet about his true feelings for Jack Kennedy. A more rotten situation all around would be hard to identify.
1% for Nixon mmakes more sense that the 15% for Clinton...
ahead of Lincoln..spare me...this thing is so phony..you
can call this bloggerbullshellack...as the Dems obviously
get some of their perverted frineds to chip in...LOL..Jake
Not that I was ever a great Nixon fan, but he did bring an end the Vietnam War and did start diplomatic relations with China.
And in 8 years, Clinton did ... WHAT, exactly?????
Yea, and W. Wilson was no winner either
