Frist won't rule out run for president in '08
Knoxville News Sentinel ^ | 2/21/5 | J.J. Stambaugh

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said today he hasn't ruled out a run for the presidency in 2008 but stressed that he hasn't given the matter much thought.

Frist, who was the keynote speaker at a Leadership Knoxville Alumni Luncheon, said he is concentrating on his role in the Senate and will put off any decisions on future political moves until after he steps down in 2006.

"I'm going to come right back home to Tennessee," the Nashville Republican said.

Frist said he might ponder a presidential bid "if that were an option" after he leaves the Senate but added, "I don't even think about it now."

Frist, a heart surgeon, said he might opt instead to concentrate on missionary work or go back into private practice when he returns home.

"Of course, I might consider public service if I thought I could make a difference," he said.

At the luncheon, Frist took questions from the crowd and voiced his support for tort reform and changing the Social Security system.

George McGovern - A loudmouth, uncharismatic extremist loses to Nixon.

That's one of the most ignorant statements ever posted.

How old are you?

Frist may be a terrific human being but he comes across as kind of a wuss with little personal charisman..kind of like Lieberman

He makes Lieberman look like George Washington.

Bump to that. I want to see conservative judges appointed before any Senator will get my vote. ANY Senator.

Frist simply has no legislative achievements to his name. There is no Frist bill. He's a reliable vote, but has not even distinguished himself as majority leader. As Senator from Tennessee, there's nothing wrong with him, but there's no there there. He's well-spoken and pretty smart for a M.ediocre D.octor, but his resume hasn't much more substance than it did when he was first elected Senator, just more titles.

That came so close to being:
Let's see how you do on Judicial nominations, first, Frist,

but I decided to take the high road, this time.
Sorry, it won't happen again.

Not old enough to have been alive at the time, I'll admit it.

But I've seen McGovern on TV more then my fair share. And Unless he somehow was 10,000 times more charismatic and less out-to-lunch-liberal with all the arrogance and condencention that it brings with it, back then then he is now, I'm gonna stick by my statement.

And do me a favor: Don't even try arguing McGovern wasn't an extremist. He was and is to this day.

That's a nice fantasy land you live in.

Contrary to popular belief, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington didn't actually really explain the modern rules in regards to fillibusters.

True. It's a shame that they don't even dislike him for logical reasons, because that isn't one.

Frist is a born loser and wussie. This is one independent conservative that would not vote for the "SENATOR".

A 214-year precedent was set on his watch by his doing nothing. You can call that lala land or whatever. But it happened while he was Majority Leader.

You want to bet that wouldn't be a major topic, if he does run? If you think not, you are in lala land.

Nice. I see you could have fixed it all easily. Wish you had been in the Senate.

How were you gonna do that again?

No, charisma was never the Senator's strong suit. But I'll be damned if I've ever seen him arrogant and condescending.

Please do me favor and follow this link:

(Go Here)

Here's a typically "extreme quote for the Senator:

I'm fed up to the ears with old men dreaming up wars for young men to die in. ......... ~George McGovern

And here's different opinion of your "extremist":

In 1972, it was the Democrats' turn to get too real. George McGovern was a man of obvious integrity, decency, and conviction, but Nixon managed to paint him, as Johnson had painted Goldwater, as an extremist.
The Politics of Emptiness ...... By Crispin Sartwell

I never said George McGovern wasn't a decent man. And I don't favor character assasination politics. I was critical of the Swift Boat Vets for challenging the legitimacy of Kerry's medels, something that they couldn't possibly prove, although I agreed that his testemony afterward was fair game.

That said, that doesn't go to make George McGovern any less extreme, at least as far as mainstream politics goes. He's the Jesse Helms of the left. And that's fine, I don't think he's a bad man, but he is still extreme.
