Brother Turns In Alleged Web Seducer
The Washington Examiner ^ | February 21, 2005 | Karl B. Hille

Posted on 02/21/2005 5:50:51 AM PST by MisterRepublican

The man who allegedly lured a 16-year-old girl on a 17-day trip to Washington state was turned in to police by his brother. After his brother introduced him to the girl, Phillip Diehl called police - when the teen had been missing for more than two weeks - and on Saturday asked The Examiner to convey an apology to Ayesha's family.

"I am so sorry that this happened to their daughter," Diehl said. "I am glad that she is safe, back with the people who really love her. I would also like to apologize for my brother's actions. I know that nothing can return the innocence or begin to make amends for what happened. I just want them to know that not everyone in my family would do something like this.

"While I will always be there to support my brother as a member of our family, I just wanted to let Ayesha's family know that I do not support or agree with his decision to do what he did."

Ending an alleged escapade with the 16-year-old that apparently started on the Internet, Diehl turned in his 43-year-old brother, William, to police in Aberdeen, Wash., where both men live.

William Diehl lived a reclusive life until about three months ago when he bought a computer and started chatting with a shy girl from D.C., according to information provided by police and his family.

He began talking with Ayesha Richardson on the Internet, apparently met her somewhere near her Kensington, Md., school Jan. 31 and drove her cross country, eventually to his home -where his brother brought the episode to an end.

"The FBI is now handling the case and considering White Slave Trafficking Act charges against Diehl for transporting a minor across state lines for immoral purposes."

This is a new one on me.

A humbled thanks for the brother who did the right thing.

Far too often this would not have been the case.

This is a new one on me.

Me, too. I wonder if the penalty for trafficking white slaves is different than the penalty for trafficking non-whites.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it used to be greater and is now less. ;O)

Nobody calls it the White Slave Trafficking Act any more, it was originally enacted back around the turn of the century, IIRC, when plenty of people were still around who remembered chattel slavery . . . I think the original moniker was intended to shock (and it did - lots of lurid movie posters from the period used it).

It's generally known now as the Mann Act. 18 U.S.C. § 2421.

Ayesha's relatives also are eager to hear about these "White Slave Trafficking Act" charges.

Thanks, I was scratching my brain really hard to remember the name of the act.

It essentially federalizes the crime and takes it out of the states hands for prosecution.

A marine biologist developed a race of genetically engineered dolphins that could live forever if they were fed a steady diet of seagulls.

One day his supply of the birds ran out, so he had to go out and trap some more.

On the way back, he spied two lions asleep on the road. Afraid to wake them, he gingerly stepped over them.

Immediately, he was arrested and charged with transporting gulls across sedate lions for immortal porpoises.

The original act is called the Mann act. This law was put on the books so the law could prosecute and bring down the Heavy weight boxing champion of the world at that time, a black man, the first to win the title. He liked white women and this, of course, irritated many people at the time. The Mann act in its original form made it against the law to take any woman across state lines for the purpose of having sex with them. They did indeed prosecute the boxer on this charge. The law is still in effect as far as I know but has been changed slightly.
