Midwest Peace Summit
Recurring Event
Friday, March 18th 2005 11:00
Indianapolis, IN USA

SPII, Students for Peace in Iraq, will sponsor the first regional "Midwest Peace Summit" to be held on the urban campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana, Friday to Sunday, March 18 to March 20. Renowned author Michael Parenti will be the keynote speaker on Saturday afternoon. Everyone's favorite protest comedian and folksinger, Dave Lippman, will be on hand to perform his antiwar hits and "George Shrub" schtick. The three-day regional event will host a diverse array of progressive workshops, seminars, musicians, artists, scholars, and antiwar and civil libertarian activists. Michael Parenti will speak again on Sunday, March 20, at noon, from Monument Circle, at an "End the War in Iraq NOW!" rally held on Monument Circle, intersection of N. Meridian and Market Streets in downtown Indy. The rally is co-sponsored by Students for Peace In Iraq, the Indiana Peace and Justice Network (IPJN) and the (IPOR) Indiana Pledge of Resistance. Both the rally and a civil disobedience/resistance are being held in solidarity with world-wide protests that weekend on the second anniversary of the Iraq war and US occupation.

The three-day regional event will host a diverse array of progressive workshops, seminars, musicians, artists, scholars, and antiwar and civil libertarian activists.

Translation: this will be the usual melange of aging hippies, bored nihilists, and guys looking to score on easy, earth-mother types. As well as a cadre of die-hard communists for whom the United States is a source of utter loathing. They'll all get together and chant a few tired slogans, then sing "We Shall Overcome" while secretly boo-hooing over their repeated failures and bemoaning the imminent demise of civilization now that The Republicans are in charge. The conclave will conclude with the assembly patting itself on the back for being the only enlightened group on earth and spending another three days accomplishing exactly nothing.

Should be a highly informative and effective "summit." If you're a piece of left-wing flotsam.
