"I don't always agree with you so it's nice to see we agree on this."

That's funny. I was thinking your very accurate tagline applied to most of Jovial Cad's posts on this thread.

jjbrouwer: it's considered a basic form of FR etiquette to *ping a poster you are commenting about to a third party. Those little courtesies are called manners, and I suggest you scratch around and try to locate some.

Peter Finn: Thank you. Yes, it's truly amazing to see all the slobbering in this thread over a rabid, doctrinaire leftist who spent the majority of his adult literary life pumping out hateful rantings against Republicans in general and conservatives in particular. It truly makes one wonder...

We may not always agree about some issues, but I'm glad to see we're on the same side on this one.

Mr. Brouwer,
Bear in mind that A Jovial Cad and I have had veritable flame wars on other issues as I tell you that I'm not just agreeing with him, but heartily supporting him on his stance.

You, on the other hand, are celebrating a piece of human detritus whose grand contributions to society have been celebrated by the likes of Ho Chi Minh, Fidel Castro, Jim Jones (People's Temple), Jane Fonda, Timothy Leary, Johnny Depp, Jann Wenner, John Kerry, Barbara Streisand, and a plethora of other people I routinely trash on FR.

You celebrate someone who is a hero to the enemies of my country.

This prick and his idiocy contributed to the deaths of soldiers in Vietnam and that is not an idle accusation. His ministry of despair, drugs, and anti-Americanism cost good men their lives.

Now let's talk about the death toll at home.

How many young people emulated his 'counter-culture' behavior and died from their drinking and drug binges?

How many young women read his crap and adopted his existentialist morality...and then had the results of their new found morality aborted before they were born?

Truth be told, I'd piss on his grave were it not for the probability that the depraved bastard might enjoy it.

I agree good riddance. The POS never said a word when Klinton murdered the women and children at Waco and Ruby Ridge. None of these commies are honest or consistent. They are all liars and hypocrites.

No, it's not that simple. If someone is as corrupt as he was, why should anyone give a damn about him. The day Clinton dies, either of them, I will say a quick prayer thanking God for taking the murderer/rapist off the face of the world and then another quick prayer for Hillary for being as lame as she was saying that she didn't know Slick Willy wasn't fooling around. The other reason why she stayed with him was for political expedience.

I'm not praising his politics just his work. I like Roman Polanski's best films. I like Wagner's music. You have to seperate the art from the artist.

Here we note the strange, sickly phenomenon so typical of such deranged, unbalanced projectionists: a specimen flounders & flails, and is finally confronted with irrefutable evidence of his/her idiocy beyond their ability to respond rationally. And, thus, the childish rants follow...as evidenced here.

The only way an mature adult can respond to such juvenile spittle, naturally, is: ...(snicker)...

Hunter Thompson on Abu Ghraib:

"The long-dreaded 2004 Olympics in Greece will be the ultimate crossroads for sports and politics in this new and vicious century. The recent photos of cruelty at the Abu Grahaib all-american prison in Baghdad have taken care of that.

Yes, sir. We have taken the bull by the horns on this one, sports fans. These horrifying digital snapshots of the American dream in action on foreign soil are worse than anything even I could have expected. I have been in this business a long time and I have seen many staggering things, but this one is over the line. Now I am really ashamed to carry an American passport. Not even the foulest atrocities of Adolf Hitler ever shocked me so badly as these photographs did."

I always wondered where the Bushitler meme started...

Exactly who led you to believe you were in any way "jovial"...? I just see a barely-educated bozo with an irrational hatred of people he doesn't even know. Maybe putting "snicker" at the end of your posts passes for joviality in your particular trailer park. (snicker)

my my , aren't the historical revisionists at work these days.
My own father was a visitor to some of the Nazi concentration camps right right after VE Day and he laughs at all these
comparisons to Abu Ghraib ,calling it a dog and pony show .
There have been situations almost as bad , but hardly on the scale of what the Nazis were up to ; Rwanda , the Cambodian
Genocide ,maybe what the North Koreans are doing to their own people in deep secret . But for these lib nit-wits to compare anything going on in Iraq to the Nazi's activities is beyond absurd. Just ignore them for they are supreme fools.

"But for these lib nit-wits to compare anything going on in Iraq to the Nazi's activities is beyond absurd..."

That's the irony. There was Nazi-like behavior in Iraq, albeit on a smaller scale. It was occurring before we got there, under Saddam. Thompson never mentioned the good in America liberating the Iraqi people from this horror, but he is shattered by the Abu Ghraib panty raid - cheer pyramids.

He ignored Saddam and vilified GWB43+1; he despised Nixon but had nothing to say of Pol Pot. Just another good liberal who is burdened with the knowledge that America is the orgin of all evil in this world and is frustrated because he can't get the rest of us to hate Her as much as the enlightened French and homegrown progressives do.

"Hunter S. Thompson. Gonzo. No More. No Mas!"

"I've been reading the obits, tributes and old articles of Hunter S. Thompson. What a freak. A typical, creative, celebrity lefty icon from liberalism's long lost and debunked golden age.

Bruised and hurt from the recent re-election of George W. Bush, this tired, old, defeated, drug-addled hippie took the selfish road out of town by killing himself. He was absolutely convinced that "his man", John Kerry had mopped the floor with W during the debates and his time in the White House would be "no more. No Mas!" The last dismal spiral into depression began on Nov. 3rd, 2004, when Mr. Gonzo awoke from his election dreams to find King George still on the thrown.

Most of his fans and generation grew out of the utopian fog and "tune out, turn on" times of the sixties and seventies. Thankfully, most of the peace-niks marching against what ever "the man" was throwing down at them on campuses across the country or who where throwing their fun-bags and hairy armpits around in mudholes at Woodstock grew up and got on with their lives. They got jobs and raised families, bought cars and houses, invested in stocks, traveled abroad, attended church without their parents, moved to a different state, and have realized the American dream. They also realized had they stuck to Mr. Thompson's guidebook they'd be living the American nightmare in a crime infested part of town hoping to score another blast of meth and watching the mailbox for the next measly welfare handout.

Hunter S. Thompson's world never came to fruition, in fact it got worse. Liberalism has been in retreat. Conservatism, also read as traditional American values of faith, family, self responsibility, strong defense and limited government are on the rise. How depressing! Hunter had to tune out. No mas! Gonzo it is, man. "

http://wagonboysgarage.blogspot.com/

I suspect that some will find fault with having to trot out the tired, old "American values" argument that is used against the deceased:

"Conservatism, also read as traditional American values of faith, family, self responsibility, strong defense and limited government are on the rise. How depressing! Hunter had to tune out. No mas! Gonzo it is, man. "

Of course, this opinion, while pragmatic, is devoid of any artistic sensibilities. That's the problem with wars, whether they are against the Islamofascists or the conterculture (one which seeks to destroy America exteranlly, the other from inside- both have the same ultimate goal and are equally destructive), they tend to exclude the extraneous. You have to recognize the enemy and destroy him before he destroys you. Yes, it's rather cavalier to speak ill of your enemy. Oh well, war has that coarsening effect. The important thing is that you recognize the enemy.

"Actually it's quite fun to fight them, you know. It's a hell of a hoot. It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up there with you. I like brawling. You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."
- LTG J. Mattis, USMC, patriot, speaking ill of his, presumably, dead enemy (whom he apparently took great cheer in dispatching to their just rewards)

Mr J. Cad, your arguments have been weighed in the balance and not found wanting. The only logical conclusion: Q.E.D.

Excellent post--pretty much sums it up as regards the late Messrs. Thompson.

Mr J. Cad, your arguments have been weighed in the balance and not found wanting. The only logical conclusion: Q.E.D

I appreciate that, but you've done a far better job of summarizing the essence of why "Gonzo" was not a proper subject of admiration for any decent person, let alone a legitimate conservative.

I tip my hat to you, Sir.

You people are scary. Do you look out for the obit threads, specifically to spew on them?

You could really make extra income by being hired to turn up at people's funerals, push all the mourners out of the way and dance like loons on the victims' graves. Come to think of it, Hunter S. would probably approve.

After all, most of you resemble the kind of lunatics he depicts in his famous piece, "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved."
