WASHINGTON - The voice of science is being stifled in the Bush administration, with fewer scientists heard in policy discussions and money for research and advanced training being cut, according to panelists at a national science meeting.
Speakers at the national meeting of the American Association for Advancement of Science expressed concern Sunday that some scientists in key federal agencies are being ignored or even pressured to change study conclusions that dont support policy positions.
The speakers also said that Bushs proposed 2005 federal budget is slashing spending for basic research and reducing investments in education designed to produce the nations future scientists....

Has it been slashed ? or have increases been reduced ?
The only people stiffling real science are the globull fear mongers. All this fear is based on easily manipulated computers models.
Not clear from the article. NASA apparently has an overall increase but the allocation is irritating some.
Nothing in the article said anything about liberals. Your title modification is yellow journalism at its worst.
You ever take a piglet away from it's mother's teats? Sounds about the same......
Are you serious?
We used to have a "CSO". I dubbed him "Chief Science Fiction Officer" - and it stuck...
sounds like the golden rule is being applied to the scientific suckling piglets who have denied funding for cold fusion since 1989, ain't payback a bitch?
Both the process and the products of science will improve when the scientists must compete in the marketplace of ideas.
This is code, meant to imply the President Bush and his administration are a bunch of religious zealots who will ramrod right-wing religious polices (anti-abortion, anti-gay-marriage, etc.). It is first and foremost meant to unify and activate the Democrat Party whack-job base. Next intended to fool the masses. IMO, the Bush Admin should counter with a well publicized, pro-science and exploration policy statement.
Didn't read the part thast wasn't excerpted since there's no requirement that MSNBC be excerpted. From what you posted, nothing is mentioned about the scientists' political leanings.
Science is the bulwark of our country's competitive edge, and it's in the country's interest that we support it.
I work with these folks all the time. Clamoring and howling for funding is Science 101. The eco-whackos and other anti-business, anti-capitalist, anti-USA groups will howl the loudest now, as their funding (rightfuly) is re-allocated. IMO, I'd rather see EPA funding go to border control.
Nothing in the post says anything about eco-whackos or environmental science. If that is what this post is about, then the title should have contained something about this particular topic. To me, environmental science is like ethnic studies...a waste of time and money for politically correct reasons.
Translation - NIH et al want more government money to conduct much needed research on the mating habits and arousal patterns of midget, lesbian, native-americans with one blue eye and one green eye.
Sounds like a vital, meritorious subject of study that warrants copious quantities of our tax dollars to conduct. Please send me the bill. /sarc
