Self flagellation was practiced by Christian cults during the Medieval period. The practice still exists in Spain.

So what's worse? Cutting the kids up (in one religion) or buggering 'em and getting away with it (another religion)? At least if they cut 'em up a lot more they won't survive to be bus bombers or jetplane divers...
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. May God have mercy on your soul.

They may nail themselves to crosses, but the numbers of them doing so are very small, and mainstream Christianity calls them nuts. In Islam large numbers do this, and they are called righteous.

Any idea why some Christians might?"
duuno. I think some people need to remember that you are save by GRACE, not work. Making yourself bleed, no matter how extreme, will never get you into heaven.

Go back a few more centuries to the worship of Baal and you have the origins this tradition. The prophet Elijah had a few problems with Jezebel and people just like this. Western politicians best buy a clue about the mindset and origins of Islam.
To: MissAmericanPie
This Shia tradition of self punishment is practiced in atonement for the death in 680AD of one individual, the grandson of mohammad. There is no connection to Baal.

Sorry Reuters, it doesn't work. The Shia might be bleeding, but your preferred Dictator poisoned a village, filled mass-graves, put people into shredders, etc.<<<,
Fred, thanks for giving me a Whole new perspective on how to look at this!

I look at this parade of the very lowest of human debris and have to say, "What a filthy pile of shiite!"
We DON'T need them here. Our diversity is our stench. I will never celebrate it.

Religion of peace, indeed.
Thanks for the ping.

I wonder how many of these guys pass out before the end of the parade route?

It's hard to find one of the former Spanish colonies that doesn't have some of this bloody salvation through suffering excess.

Look on the bright side. Now that Iraq is free, many Iraqi families will choose to return to their home country. In a way, that's a pity because the Iraqi immigrants in Australia have not caused any problems. Can't say the same for the arabs from other ME countries however.

Mutilation is barbaric whatever the method; arrogance would have been a better choice of words for this article serves to elucidate the heretofore ignorant.

When you see that last photo of the old man about to slash the kid's head with a knife, you realize that if they're perfectly happy to commit this kind of carnage upon their
own people, their own children, then it's clear as a bell that the notion of beheading "infidels" is a normal idea for them.
As the sometimes annoying O'Reilly would say, "Where am I going wrong here?"
