Illegal immigration must stop, and it must stop at the U.S.-Mexico border. This is the opinion of a Mexican living in Mexico.
I understand people need jobs and have the right to look for a better life for their families, but we are overlooking the fundamental problem behind illegal immigration: the Mexican government and its inability to provide a decent life for its citizens.
In Mexico, politicians and elites have grown comfortable with the notion that they can get away with not working hard, not planning and not putting the people first because there's simply no accountability. They know that by exporting impoverished Mexicans, they won't have to face their discontent. And thanks to the billions that Pemex generates and the billions sent here from Mexicans working in the United States, they can keep the population stable enough to prevent social revolt.
The fact is, illegal immigration is hurting Mexico. While the $16 billion that Mexicans working in the United States sent home last year is good, it pales in comparison to the hundreds of billions of dollars that the Mexican economy could generate if politicians and elites would stop thinking about their pockets and work for change.
Mexican politicians need to feel social pressure to force them to change, and that's never going to happen until the border is closed so the Mexican government can face the music coming from the millions of hungry mouths of the people it has failed.
Close the border, ignore the rhetoric coming from the Mexican government and let us apply some pressure on our leaders. It's good for us, it's good for you and it's good for freedom, true freedom.

Actually I would say that a lot of illegals pay taxes. Many of their employers don't ask if they are here legally but will use the fake documentation to pay their social security and income taxes.
"Today it just happens to be (illegal alien) Mexicans" who wilfully and knowingly broke federal felony laws sneaking into the USA.
You seem to pretend they enter the USA legally or have legal status here - the Irish, Germans. Italians, Brits, and others entered legally thru Ellis Island and INS inspections - they did not break America's laws coming here -
Your petty stealth revisionism fools nobody on FR -
Please don't tell me this is gonna be another OBL thread.
It's impossible to close the border.
Nothing is impossible Vicente.
Some FReepers and lurkers and visitors do not spot the semi-hidden agenda sleepers on FR.
We have seen the previous comments and agendas on this issue and don't buy the camo.
A bounty system on all these criminal illegal aliens and all the crooked employers of illegal aliens.
No dinky "fine" or "warning tickets" - instantly deport illegal aliens - seize the assets and property and inventory of employers of illegal aliens and try, convict, sentence them to long hard time in federal prisons with zero "probation", "parole" or "good time" early releases.
If that does not work much stronger methods will follow by private citizens.
Mexican officials inside the USA should be tried, convicted, sentenced to Conspiracy to commit Federal felonies.
I'm sure the Mexican laborers would love to just show up at U.S. entry points (like Ellis Island was) without any prior approval, take a physical exam, and be admitted to the U.S. as permanent residents.
Why don't you write your Congressman and propose that?
no sale - no diversion
you are only an apologist for criminals
cherry-picking which laws you wish to obey or not obey does not fly
your agenda is well documented here on FR
"Mexican laborers"? - Once again you cannot say "illegal aliens".....

LOL, so true.
""Then you should have no problem supporting President Bush's guest worker legislation that would provide for legal immigrant laborers.""
We already have a guest worker program. It's called a Visa, and it's legal.
Excellent post. Thank you.
LOL. Bullseye
Ping! You nailed it.
So this Mexican demanding accountablity from his government is asking too much?
Basic sociology: get rid of the push factors (jobs in Mexico) and the pull factors (jobs in the US) and we wouldn't have to worry about illegal immigration from Mexico.
Mexico needs to work on the push factos.
We need to work on eliminating the pull factors.

Maria Sanchez is alive and posting here on FR.
Soliciting others to commit federal criminal felonies is not exactly a defendable position.
The broken record still endlessly plays but the natives are restless and angry.
I am pleased to see many young FReepers with wisdom, loyalty, and honesty many more mature people lack.
