Everyone keeps talking about Hillary's stance on illegal immigration. What is it? I haven't heard. At this point, if she really is wanting to put a stop to it, she will have a LOT of people backing her. Something the Republicans had better acknowledge soon.
I would welcome this move. It would be brilliant.
Empty words.
Right. Please don't throw me into that briar patch. Hillary Clinton, regardless of her stance on any issue, is exactly the candidate the GOP should hope to run against. It's an easy "hold" for all red states, and she'd probably lose a blue or two.
She wants to talk about reform, and promise to pass something she calls reform. From her voting record, she is very, very pro-illegal. I see a replay of 1992 and "welfare reform," when Bill was a bitter enemy of an reform plan, but had pushed the issue so much that Congress kept plassing plans. He vetoed one after the other, until finally the Senate passed one with 90 votes.
The difference is that the economy in 1992 was roughly where it was in 2003. So whereas the economy was just starting to brust into a full gallop in 1996, it will inevitably hit a snag by 2012.

Hillary Clinton: One Step Back, Shift To The Right

Hillary has moved far to the right on illegal immigration -- to the right of President Bush, in fact. In an interview on WABC radio, she stated (http://washingtontimes.com/national/20041213-124920-6151r.htm), "I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants." She attacked Bush for not tightening the borders enough to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country. However, she co-sponsored bill S. 2381 with Ted Kennedy, the "Safe, Orderly, Legal Visas and Enforcement Act of 2004." The bill included an amnesty that would have granted Legal Permanent Resident status to illegal aliens (and their spouses and minor children) who have lived in the US for at least 5 years, and worked for an aggregate of 2 years. This would have included just about every illegal immigrant currently living in the US. She also cosponsored S. 1545, the DREAM Act of 2003. The bill would have granted in-state tuition and amnesty to illegal aliens under the age of 21 who had lived in America for five years and were currently in 7th grade or above. The Agricultural Job Opportunity, Benefits, and Security Act of 2003 (S. 1645) also listed Hillary as a cosponsor. The bill would have granted amnesty to illegal immigrants who had 100 days of agricultural employment in the 18-month period that ended on 31 August 2003. To her credit, she did cosponsor S. 1749, the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act of 2001, which would have created an alien tracking and identification system. However, her record can hardly be summed up (http://profiles.numbersusa.com/improfile.php3?DistSend=NY&VIPID=896) as being "adamantly against illegal immigrants."
Here's my take. She'll be against illegal immigration if she can pass legislation allowing felons to vote. If not, she'll need the illegal immigrant vote. IOW, whatever's politically expedient! ;-)
Get over your one trick, son.
This isnt' an immigration thread.
Take it elsewhere.
Sure should.. At least as many people as backed Pat Buchanan in 2004. ... perhaps as many as 5 or 6 more...
Aha! That's the beauty of it - NOBODY has actually heard it. Only the talk "about it".
It's kind of like people who are famous, for being famous. They haven't done anything TO be famous but they are anyway.
That's only because she takes a stance but does not elaborate a position. "...And we must do something about illegal immigration." Just what that something is she leaves for people to hear what they want to hear.
Anyone who thinks Hillary would do anything about immigration is either seriously misinformed or a closet Democrat. She'll say anything to try and divide the Republican Party and win the election. However, based on posts on this forum, she'll get the 1% that vote for people like Tancredo and Buchanan as many have proclaimed she is their savior from illegal aliens.

Yeah, if they don't all 29 of the Free Republic wingnuts on the issue will bolt to the democratic party. Big loss.
