Jeff Gannon Admits Past 'Mistakes,' Berates Critics

Saturday, February 19, 2005; Page C01

Jeff Gannon, the former White House reporter whose naked pictures have appeared on a number of gay escort sites, says that he has "regrets" about his past but that White House officials knew nothing about his salacious activities.

"I've made mistakes in my past," he said yesterday. "Does my past mean I can't have a future? Does it disqualify me from being a journalist?"

Gannon chastised his critics, breaking a silence that began last week when liberal bloggers disclosed his real name, James Dale Guckert, and a Web page, which he paid for, featuring X-rated photos of himself. "Why would they be looking into a person's sexual history? Is that what we're going to do to reporters now? Is there some kind of litmus test for reporters? Is it right to hold someone's sexuality against them?"

As for his critics, Gannon said: "People have said some of my writing expressed a hostile point of view" toward gays. "These people are willing to abandon their principles on the basis of trying to make me out to be a hypocrite. These are the same groups that cherish free speech and privacy."

John Aravosis, a gay activist who posted the pictures of Gannon on his Americablog.org, said the issue is not Gannon's right to be a journalist but his "White House access. . . . The White House wouldn't let him in the door right now, knowing of his background."

Aravosis said Gannon is guilty of "what I call family-values hypocrisy. Basically, he's asking the gay community to protect him when he attacks us."

-snip-

In the interview, Gannon did not dispute evidence that he has advertised himself as a $200-an-hour gay escort but would not specifically address such questions.

Howard Kurtz has written an article on Gannon almost everyday since this non-story broke. I'm beginning to wonder if Howie has a thing for Jeff Gannon :-)

I never heard of this guy before this "story" broke. I guess it's now illegal for gay people to be reporters, according to the liberal press?

Officially over this story in three...two...one.

I don't get it. With Clinton we were told that sex was a private matter. I guess Gannon should have had the pics taken in the Oval Office.

It would just totally uspet the lefties, if the white house let him back in.

This whole Gannon story is almost as irrelevant as the "has beens" over at MSNBC and CNN who have been beating this dead story like a rented Mule for two weeks now.

PATHETIC

I guess it's now illegal for conservative gay people to be reporters, according to the liberal press?

Hope that you don't mind my correction above, now the the WaPo has probably run more stories about Jeff Gannon than they did about Eason Jordan. Who knew that TalonNews was as prominent as CNN?

Another few days and WP will have run more stories on Gannon than Dan Rather's forgies.

If this guy reports the facts, in my book he is a better journalist than Rather of CBS and his cronies, that guy who was fired from CNN, and the rest of the liberal media who can't even get Kerry to reveal why his discharge documents from the military occurred when Carter was President.

Why can't this reporter from Washington Post or Boston Globe or NY Times report why was Kerry's discharge dated when Carter was President? Was he not a Senator then?

Nonono. Don't you get it? This is the story that's going to take down the Bush Regime according to the DUmmies. The whole WH is gay. :rolling eyes:

This outing courtesy of the party of tolerance, The Dems.

In all truth, DU is frothing at the mouth because "they've got the goods". And you're right...Pathetic describes it.

To the best of my knowledge the WaPo is as liberal a paper as they come, so I think that's in line with my idea that it's wrong for a conservative reporter to be gay, or whatever is going on with this guy. I'm having a truly bizarre email argument with a gay liberal associate who has gone nuts over this story. And I had to inform him that he'd read Talon news more than I have, which is never.

This story is going to go down as making those attacking Gannon look like lunatics, while no one will ever quite recall Gannon.

The Dem's have a fixation with conspiracy. Now they are trying to say Gannon was behind the phony documents that Rather got.

The DU tinfoil roll is spinning overtime and you missed some:

Gannon had CIA memos and outed Plame

Gannon supplied the WH with Male hookers

Gannon was a WH plant

And they have plenty more where those came from.
