"Brooklyn Politics." Why aren't our representatives representing us?
Bay Ridge Courier | Week of February 21, 2005 | Me, based upon Erik Engquist column.

I ask this because of a recent tidbit I read in the weekly column of my local newspaper.

Ironically enough, under a subsection of the paper entitled TIDBITS.

It seems that Chris Owens, the less than sterling son of an already incompetent congressman, i.e., Major Owens, has decided to take Mayor Bloomberg to task for his decision to ask the city's corporation counsel to appeal Magaret Ling-Cohen's recent court injunction-which she has temporarily stayed-overturning the state's prohibtion against same-sex "marriage."

Now, I don't want to debate the relative merits-or lack thereof-of this judge's decison.

Rather, I would like to explore the analogy that Mr. Owens has made between officially sanctioned interracial marriages, and unions between two individuals of the same sex, which have never been recognized by any branch of the United States government, until recently.

Being the son of a mixed-race marriage, Mr. Owens believes that the comparison between these two scenarios is valid.

Now, what I would like to know is how he can presume to speak for his entire district-assuming of course that he is able to inherit his father's seat in Congress in the upcoming election, nearly two years from now-when he is, by definition, excluding a significant portion of it, which believes his comparison to be not only be inaccurate, but also inherently offensive?

Why is it that the Democrats in Kings County feel no compunction to abide by the wishes of a majority of their constituency, when the prevailing sentiment conflicts with the Dem. pols interest in placating radical, out of the mainstream, special interest groups?

Moreover, how come the Kings County Republican Party has never called these hacks on their political cowardice?

God said let the two become one, and also be fruitful and multiply. A mixed race couple can do this, and a homosexual couple can't no matter HOW MUCH WISHES THEY MAKE. No comparison.

Because like nearly all politicians they are more worried about angering a few people and keeping their jobs than doing the peoples business. It is all driven by fear and money, and it is sickening to see both sides succomb to it as the Country gets more and more socialist.
