ATLANTA - Nothing says trustworthy like a Boy Scout. So when the FBI began investigating reports the Greater Alabama Boy Scout Council was lying about how many members it had, eyebrows went up. Allegations of membership padding by paid Scout executives have also been made in five other states.
One employee, who didn't want to be identified, says in some Scout councils it's almost a joke.
"I remembered hearing the registrar and some of the professional staff joking about who's got a gold fish, who's got a cat or a dog," she says. "[In other words,] who's got a name I can put in?”.....

It's silly. Every club I've ever been in has a membership roster that consists of everyone who showed up the first day. Rarely are the people who actually participate in the club even half of that number.
While this won't help much I did notice that all of the Fraud reported was from large/blue cities.
Scouts Have Honor, some of the adults don't it seems.

I'm sad to report about Troop 20 Orange Park (First Baptist Church Orange Park). We have a guy who is a financial worker for a rail company who is working with ex-eagle scouts to defraud Phillip Morris (One of the ex-scout's employer) out of matching fund contributions.
I tried explaining that it is wrong ethically, morally, and legally to give money to someone so they can defraud their employer. My concerns fell on deaf ears.
I have walked away from the scouts because of this issue. Evil knows no bounds even in the reddest county in a red state.
Which reminds me...I wonder how that IRS investigation of Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUTSCH operation is going.
one correction.......I'm an Eagle Scout and you never become an "ex-Eagle Scout".....like a Marine, always an Eagle Scout......though at times, I have no honor either..usually on Saturday night........
That is the nut of it, isn't it. I don't know whether these allegations are true or not but, if they are I doubt this Organization is the only one using these tactics to obtain funding (Not to excuse it in ANY way). At the minimum it smacks of selective enforcement.
After some of my own experiences as a youth within Scouting, I wouldn't put it past my old council to do such a thing.
My troop had a disgruntled adult leader in it who later split and created his own troop. He tried to get half of my troop's stuff, and was good buddies with the council executive. Our troop refused to give him anything, and stuff started to happen. I was a youth at the time, so I don't know all that went on, but I will say that just as in any organization, there is corruption within the Scouts too. I won't say that there's more in Scouting, because while my own council was bad, I don't think others have the same sorts of problems.
However, this news source is all too kind to try and paint all Scouting troops as corrupt tyrants of their councils. Some are like that, the ones where the adults don't have the boys' best interests at heart, only their own position.
This is impossible... Maybe they should read the oath..

I can see the smiles on the faces of the Gay/Lesbian Orgs as I type. The MSM will give this more coverage than it deserves and we'll all be the worse for it IMO.
