CLEARWATER, Fla. (Reuters) - The parents of a brain-damaged Florida woman at the center of a right-to-die battle said on Thursday they would ask a court to order new medical tests before she is allowed to die.

Robert Schindler, the father of Theresa "Terri" Schiavo, said the tests should be done because of a recent study that found patients with brain damage may be more aware of their surroundings than doctors previously thought.

The way to tell is to see if her cerebral cortex has atrophied away, or if there is some of that structure still there. If the cortex is gone, she is already dead for all intent and purpose, if some cerebral cortex tissue remains intact, that may not be the case.

I have no idea, however, how such a test could be performed.

This isn't a "Right-to-Die" battle. This is a "Right-to-Murder" battle. The person in question has expressed no interest whatsoever in dying.

This whole concept is just so wrong! A woman the other day came out of a 20 year coma- while Terri is not in a coma miracles do happen and in Terri's case she just needs therapy etc to improve & scumbag hubby doesn't want her to improve. I hope he dies a long painful death.

There are so many people who have improved or fully recovered from brain damage that it's not even funny. Now there is proof that they are aware, even though it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Terri is very aware.

We have serious problems in this country whenever a convicted killer can't be starved to death but a disabled woman can be.

Bingo!

Felos has successfully spun this so the general public is taking it hook, line, and sinker. This is about court ordered murder or as Bob Schindler nailed it "Judicial Homicide"!

I think the tests they are talking about is functional MRI, a way at looking the actual brain activity at the level of cellular activity. Think of something like being in an MRI tube and then giving some kind of stimulus (noise, visual) and then looking for changes in the activity in the brain that correlate with the stimulus.

Dr. Hammesfahr said the brain scan was 75% of normal size. An improvement from a previous scan he said.

"right to die???"

What bias!!! Terry isn't fighting to die.. Her husband is fighting to kill her.

Reuters is on permanent boycott till further notice. I've had it with those a##holes.

"Schiavo, 41, has been in what some doctors say is a persistent vegetative state since a 1990 heart attack. She can breathe on her own but cannot feed herself or communicate."

Good old lock step reporting. She didn't have a heart attack. They won't let her eat on her own, and she sure can communicate.

It should be a simple MRI, and this would be done with her periodically.

Felos has successfully spun this so the general public is taking it hook, line, and sinker.

Just the other day a woman at church said to me, "Terri Schiavo? Isn't that the woman whose husband wants her taken off life support?" That's the story that the public has taken in . . . because that's the story the media fed them.

This request is setting up a massive medical malpractice and wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital if she's murdered due to their advice.
