In this PC age of advertising, there is one group who can still be made the butt of jokes with total impunity: middle-aged white guys.
The latest installment was on display in a commercial I just caught. A befuddled guy is sitting on the couch, fiddling with the TV remote. His roughly 11-year old daughter enters, and he tells her he can't seem to switch to a given channel.
"Of course not," she curtly informs him, "it's been blocked." She goes on to inform the ignoramus that most channels can be blocked via the remote or by calling the cable company.
He asks whether channels can be unblocked, and once again she condescendingly explains they can, then snidely adds:
"But you're going to have to get Mom's permission."
He calls out for his wife. She enters, and he imploringly asks her if he can watch the channel. She glances at the screen, gives a curt "No!" then exits.

Yes, yes, I know: "don't be so touchy. I thought it was funny. Chill out. Relax." etc. Look, I have no problem if this was an equal-opportunity thing. But it does bug me that if the tables were turned cries of outrage would echo throughout the land.
Definition of a nanosecond: gap in time between the airing of any material that does not show minorities or women as noble and pure and the protests that are printed/aired immediately thereafter.

If men start standing up and being leaders, taking charge of their homes and paychecks how long do you think it will be before women start SCREAMING abuse or this isn't the 50's or stop suppressing me, bla bla bla, guys can't win, especially white ones!
You're right. Unfortunately the feminazis have blurred some lines and I don't think men know how to take charge. Women's rights groups have done some damage to this country and to family values.
Lots of cash flowing right now from the lower rungs of the socio-economic ladder, no matter the color. Work enough to make $10,000, get an EIC "refund" of $3000-6000, even though they paid no taxes. They spend this money freely.

Yeah, well there's a lot of resentment out there. A lot of peoples' lives didn't turn out the way they were "supposed to." And women control a large portion of spending power...find a 35 year old woman who spends a certain portion of each day asking herself "is this all there is?" tap into the resentment and sell her soap...
so are you saying commercials now predominantly target women because they are suseptible to being easily influence by commercials? Hmmmmmm, does not say much for "you've come a long way baby"...

commercials target whoever has the money and uses the product...nobody is immune to marketing these days, it's too pervasive.
You know it's really stupid that it's OK to make fun of white people or call them names, but when you make fun of black people or any other minority, you're called a "raciest"! I'm not raciest or any thing, but it's true. Also if you say something that sounds like men are smarter than women, all the feminist go on the offensive. It's so politically-correct.

I think what we are seing is the balkanizing of commercials. Talk radio commercials seem to target men more than women. TV targets women more than men.
Remember when we used to go to the movies to ESCAPE commercials? Even watching the movie is risking exposure to product placement commercials.

It's all demographics. It's a science, and it works!
Except for one thing. Everything related to a computer, from the motherboard, to the plastic case, to the metal screws holding it together, to the software running it, to the glass monitor, to the electricity running it, to the power plants that provide the electricity, to the dams that hold back the water, that generates the electrical power... ALL OF THAT, THE WHOLE ENCHILADA, was built by and/or invented/created by friggin' men!
I challenge any woman on this site to name one damn thing invented by a woman. And kitchen and/or haircare gadgets don't count!
Then go take a look at a magazine rack. All of the women's magazines are focused on "me, me, me". Cosmo, Glamour, Me, Weddings, Bridal this and Bridal that, clothes, makeup, etc. ad nasuem.
Then look at men's magazines: It's all about activities and creation. Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Hot Rods, Guns and Ammo, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Time, Fortune, Architecturial Digest, etc..
And consider television shows such as "Yes, Dear" (the husband is a total wuss; even the show's name forewarns you about the premise of the show), then the Lifetime Channel. On the Lifetime Channel all men are either (a) totally wussified, (b) rapists, (c) wife-beaters, (d) wife-killers, (e) child molesters, (f) criminal thugs, (g) racists -- you get the picture. And on the Lifetime Channel, all women are noble, oppressed, courageous, wise, benevolent, dignified, honorable, etc. "You go girl!" "Girl Power".
And by the way, I hear that the Lifetime Channel is owned by the Alpha Feminist, Orca Winfrey.
Yo - CroMagnon. I did what I said I was going to do, and I bought "MEN IN BLACK." Already through the first chapter and lovin' it. I got at Barnes & Noble. Borders was suspiciously "out of stock." Although, the Borders clerk did tell me it was a hot seller and more were on the way.
