"Who but an adolescent would watch the Simpsons?"

Perhaps a uncynical adult who still possesses a sense of humor?

Ever hear Bob Saget's stand up act? He's one dirty guy!

You obviously haven't watched it that much.

I don't think I got through the first episode I ever tried to watch. And that was along time ago. I like and have used the 'Having a Cow' expression. About twenty years ago I was totally repulsed by network TV. My aversion is such I just never watch network any more. My only exception is my yearly Sunday Football Ticket on DirectV. And just the network promos and commercials I see during the games serve to boost my resistance. So I remain Network free for another year.

Bob Saget! Paging Bob Saget!

Bab Saget has a squeaky clean TV image, but his stand up routine is as raunchy as Rodney Dangerfields was.

The best of the Simpsons episodes are briliantly funny and resonant. It's one of the most 'nuclear family' oriented shows around.

I'm 36 yr old right-wing, conservative Christian who is also a Simpsons fan. They skewer both the left and right. They can be risque. When they do that, I change the channel. I have no idea which way they will go with this, but if it ends up as a "morality play" endorsing same sex marriage as they have endorsed other family values, then it will make it harder for me to watch them in the future. Besides, we always have King of the Hill which is a lot funnier.

To Baynative, and all:

I have seen enough of the adverstisements on this program to want to vomit. And no,I'm not overreacting. Same-sex marriage is a big issue these days and now they are advocating it (and homosexuality) in TV shows. I don't watch the Simpsons either, but I do watch FOX. And I'm sick of seeing that commercial. It's lewd. I would think that with the number of conservatives on here, you all would care about this issue and would demand FOX pull the show. It's indecent. And it's not something to take lightly.

I think it was Bart who said one episode...."we need another Viet Nam to thin out their ranks."

Obviously not. Or you wouldn't complain about it.

NAMBLA member: "We are human. Most of us didn't even choose to be attracted to young boys. We were born that way. We can't help the way we are, and if you all can't understand that, well, then, I guess you'll just have to put us away."

Kyle: [slowly, for emphasis] "Dude. You have sex with children."

Stan: "Yeah. You know, we believe in equality for everybody, and tolerance, and all that gay stuff, but dude, f*** you."

Kyle: "Seriously."

Discussion of a topical issue is not advocacy. Or by your logic this thread would be advocating watchin the Simpsons, as much as that show is advocating Gay Marriage.

Me?

Now that Hee-Haw and Lawrence Welk are gone, what do you like to watch?

You're a MoveOn plant trying to troll around here, aren't you?

Fee:
Ok, this thread has gotten ridiculous! This is the first time I've posted on Freerepublic that I've gotten such a cold reception. I wonder why you say I'm a Moveon plant. Because I'm black? Well I want you to know that there ARE conservative black people who do care about the direction this country is going, and you don't have to be a certain color to be concerned. Don't be so quick to judge.
