But that doesn't make any sense...

Isn't he the Ambassador to Iraq?
To: mrobison
Makes no sense to me. He was recently named US Ambassador to Iraq.

Heard it on MSNBC. Fox appeared clueless (as in they were talking about something else).

I was hoping for Woolsey.

I like it. Tells me Bush wants someone who will get through the gauntlet of opposition fairly quickly and unscathed. Also tells me Porter Goss is the man - the NID being more of a coordinator.

See, this is were I really do miss old Tommie what's his face, the guy from Dakota. I miss his obligatory, automatic, sure-as-sin "I'm deeply troubled" comments (while looking down at his shoes) about any and every appointment that W makes. He really emphasized how clueless and classless the dems are. Oh, sure, Reid and Pelosi are every bit as much a schmuck as Tommie was but the come across as just dishonest, lying obstructionists while Tommie came across as a more dramatic, dishonest, lying obstructionist.
Now, watch how they handle this. If I'm right about Sreamin'Deanie's destiny to fail to make Hillie look good, Hillie will not oppose and may even vote for Negroponte. Dean and the usual scumbags will rave and rant in opposition. Dean's job is to make it looks like the extremist lunatic fringe has taken over so that the regular lunatic fringe can look like centrists.

He may be a competent guy in the foreign service (which, coming from me, is damning by faint praise), but National Intelligence Director? Yeah, I'm aware of the role of the FSOs and embassies in the intelligence business, but, IMHO, the last thing we need is a State Department mentality (37 years worth) at the helm of the National Intelligence Community.

What happened to General Franks or the Air Force General who ran the DIA?
Negroponte is a very odd choice. At least I cannot be accused of being a cooled-aid drinker.
