Your story wasn't too long at all. It was perfect. Thank you.
This does happen. And it will be happening here in North Mississippi on the first or 2nd of March when one particular Marine returns home.
PMMD81's hero son will be returning home and I'm getting together a welcoming party to let him know how much we appreciate his service to us. He told his mom about how impressive the welcoming group in Dallas was as he flew through on his way back to Okinawa for outprocessing.
A veteran of the liberation of Fallujah, Dusty has been recommended for the Bronze Star for his heroism in rescuing an injured Marine from a burning house. He doesn't know that another mom told his mom about this. She shared the information with me at work.
He won't know until sometime next week exactly when he will be flying in or the airport that he is flying into.
Regardless, my family will be joining his family and as many others as wish to meet his plane to thank him.
If you're there, you might even get an invite to the big welcome home party on Saturday the 5th.
NerdDad is doing the BBQ and promises that there will be plenty to share with our FReeper friends.
pmmd81: Hey, we're talking about you and Dusty over here.
WKB: Please ping the north Missippi folks to extend the invitation. Most likely point of arrival is GTR Airport in Columbus MS or into the airport in Tupelo MS. I'll keep you posted.
Mississippi ping
Everyone should show appreciation to our Military whether it be a simple thank you, pay for their lunch, buy their gas, etc. I would like to call out to San Diego Freepers. It it possible that we could start a welcoming group to meet our brave men and women when they come thru Lindberg Field. Does anyone know who we could contact to know when our brave men and women would be flying in. I know Hubby and I would be available any week-end.....
Thanks for the feedback. I've wanted to put my thoughts on paper, but was never able to get through same till now.
While I'm a Miller drinker, I'm going to make my next beer a Bud, just because of that message. It was great.
What a great story ... it wasn't too long ... I could have kept reading!
Great story WKB. Thanks for the ping!
Where have you been hiding?
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighting Troops
Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen the commercial before.
I'm not American and that commercial even left me teary.
It was simple but powerful. Deservedly patriotic IMHO.
I'm really happy to see that kind of commercial aired.
The applause is well-deserved for the brave military
serving in harm's way, especially those in Iraq and
Afghanistan. Hope they all will be able to return home
soon with their heads held high. They did and are
doing a fine job.
On the last flight I took, as we were taxing after landing at DFW, the captain came on the loudspeaker and announced that a passenger on the flight was a soldier returning home from a tour in Iraq. The entire cabin immediately burst into applause.
NBC 5 out of Dallas seems to do pretty good coverage. Of course, it was home to Karen Hughes when she was a reporter.
On a related matter, my granddaughter's fifth grade class sent letters to some troops before Christmas, telling them hao proud they were of them. They got some really nice letters in response. There is a bullentin board in the elementary hall of the letters and pictures sent to the students.
Check to see it there is a USO lounge at Lindberg.
They might be able to help.
You can bet that Toby Keith didn't know about this or there would be a companion story about a human grease spot found underneath the crowd.
Wouldn't surprise me either, but he's also a condescending Yankee a lot of the time.
Tissue alert!
I should say so!! I lost with the elderly gentleman!! What a great story! THe MSM should be ashamed of themselves for putting our soldiers through that anquish!!!!!
I'm currently in the Air National Guard and my unit is in the Peoples Republic of Portland, OR. Friends of mine from my unit have had lunches paid for (we tend to go to local restaurants for lunch) from anonomous benefactors, we've had offers to buy us drinks, (we can't drink in uniform anymore) and nearly every drill weekend I get people thanking me for my service. Last drill a guy from my section and I went to Safeway to get some chinese food and a Viet Nam vet commended us on how sharp our BDU's and boots looked. We had a good conversation with him while waiting in line. Oh, BTW he and my buddy are African Americans and this was in NE Portland in a very multi-ethnic neighborhood. The media has absolutely no idea what the vast majority of public sentiment in this country is.
Thank You !!!! And a big staning O round of applause as well! Again, it's late, but as I wasn't here when you came home, please except it now! Welcome Home!!
