Torture Allegations and the Safety of American Forces
FOX NEWS ^ | Wednesday, February 16, 2005 | By Bill O'Reilly

All over the world, the USA is being accused of torturing prisoners taken in the War on Terror. Just the allegations alone hurt this country and shift emphasis from the real villains -- terrorists who routinely murder civilians.

Day after day, the left-wing media pound stories about America's mistreating of prisoners in Guantanamo, in Iraq, in Afghanistan. Those reports are picked up worldwide and are used to incite anti-American feelings and even to recruit more terrorists.

(Begin video tape) SEN. TED KENNEDY (D), MASSACHUSETTS: By refusing to come clean and provide necessary documents and by discouraging responsiveness and candor from its nominees on the issue of torture, the administration is only making the crisis worse, further embarrassing the nation in the eyes of the world and casting greater doubt on its commitment to the rule of law.

(End video tape)

"Talking Points" does not believe there is a "torture crisis," as Kennedy puts it. I don't think the Bush administration sanctions the abuse of human rights, but I do believe the president has a far different view of how captured terrorists should be treated than Kennedy or "The New York Times." So let's have the debate. ...

I am confused! I thought that the Presidents job was the administrative end of the government. I didn't realise that it was to inform the folk of every step taken to conduct business. And debate? What is that all about? Get the job done, that is the job.

I know, I know everyone would like to know what is going on all of the time especially the media. But on this point, this administration has been quite consistent, they pretty much keep their mouths closed. Not a bad idea given what has been going on lately. Why create more trouble? Not that they would necessarily but when a public official opens their mouth, any misstep can cause endless trouble.

Just shut up and let the likes of Ted Kennedy make the missteps and lose the credability. Which seems to be the case. Anybody think Teddy is creditable?

It seems that judgeing them by their actions has proven to be a pretty good yard stick as to how they are doing.

You have just hit on the reason the media and organisations like the International Red Cross and Amnesty International and the UN make these accusations. They know it hurts the USA.

This torture of the prisoners should stop immediately!

We should shoot them instead.

I like this thinking...eliminate prison congestion, too.

Someone take a memo to Bill O'Reilly! Bill, we here in Massghanistan are being tortured -- by having to listen to the scuba diver talk about torture and the war hero talk about why President Bush needs his advice! I guess that makes K&K terrorists.
