I'm a tab junkie and I hate MS's approach to email. Mozilla just does it for me.
You got that right - "tabbing" is the only way to go.

Me too, which is why I use the Avant "browser" http://www.avantbrowser.com. I put "browser" in quotes because it's not actually a standalone web browswer, it's a "wrapper" around Internet Explorer which customizes a *lot* of its behavior -- including turning IE into a tabbed browser, adding a built-in popup blocker, language translation, one-click toggling of scripting/images/sounds/etc., and much more.
I also love how it remembers all your open web pages, and can restore them all if your system crashes or whatever. You can also name sets of web pages as "groups" and then re-open them all with the click of a mouse at any time, and a lot of other handy features.

I'm a firm believer in keeping the browser and other functions separate. I've been using Agent for Usenet and Eudora for Email for about 7 years. I use Act! as a PIM when I need one.
Over the years, keeping them separate has been a very good thing. I've never a virus problem and I get better functionality.
I use whatever browser is the best right now. I have used IE, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera and now Firefox. I prefer the browsers without all of the add-on disk/memory clogging add-ons. I've never tried Avant. I think I'll download it tonight.
I love the tabs too. I got stuck on them with MYIE, but it ran over IE and I still had all of the spyware problems. Switched to FireFox and now I have my tabs and no spyware.
