If he's got an uphill battle to win, as this article says, why would the Dems risk running him? Why not "push him aside" in favor of another Democratic congresscritter like Jim Cooper or Lincoln Davis? (Granted, I don't want to give them advice, I'm just very curious)

Because he'll probably win and it really isn't an uphill battle. He's charismatic, he's popular, he has a huge donor pool, and he's conservative for a Democrat.

Maybe to make up for the railroad job they did to him so Nancy Botox Pelosi could be the Minority Leader

I doubt that any of the other candidates of his stature (congressmen) want to risk their careers for a probable loss.

Ford, Jr. is one of the big shining lights of their party. Moderate, African-American, Southern, young, probably would play well with "soccer moms." If he can win the US Senate race in Tennessee, an increasingly red state, he would be on the extremely short list for VP nominees, and could possibly make a run for the White House on his own someday. He's a dream candidate for the Democrats for national office. If he can win this seat, the upside on the end is huge.

Obviously you do not live in the Ford's districts. You do not push a Ford aside or they will come after you with a pistol that looks like a cell phone, get a rifle out of their truck, ram your house with a brand new Jag, call you names and refuse to represent you.

Frist campaigned for Thune. This is about payback. They spent 10-20 million trying to get Jeb Bush in Florida. They failed there. They will fail here.

It is also the same reason we want Guiliani to take out Hillary in 06.

Also their base is terrribly demoralized and they desperately need a high profile win. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Also to Kristinn: I think think the Clintonistas are behind this. They revel in revenge and beating frist would help hillary enourmously.

Fee:
Because he's Tennessee's Barak Obama. Young, smart, an up and coming democrat. I still don't trust him though.
