from debka and others--Mystery deepens over big explosion above S. Iranian town of Deylam north of Bushehr Wednesday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards now deny any attack or even a falling aircraft fuel tank.

Undeniable blast caused oil prices to shoot up by more than dollar past $48 per barrel and interrupted Iranian TV broadcasts. Nuclear installation is due to start operating in Deylam this year.

Incident follows announcement of Iranian-Syrian common front "to face threats." Iranian VP Aref said in Tehran after talks with Syrian PM al-Otari: We are ready to help Syria on all grounds to confront threats.

According to a SkyNews article linked to on another thread, the explosion was on the 'outskirts of Dailam' and the nuke facility is approx. 90 miles from Dailam. Skynews isn't real reliable, IMO...anyone else able to confirm this from other reports?

Another theory..Iran caused the blast..to "manufacture" justification for a strike...

Iran is fishing for international [read: socialist EU] sympathy for their nuclear 'self defense' program. They're not looking for a reason to strike us or Israel or anyone else.

Q: How can you tell when an ayatollah is lying?
A: When his lips are moving.

If Iran strikes a neighbor they'll soon glow in the dark.

We don't know where all the Iranian weapon sites are. If we or Israel were to hit 30 and leave 6 there would be retaliation. And Israel's too close for that. Either this was a silly shot across the bow, or a drone got shot down, or it is not related to taking out the facility. We're not stupid, Israel's not stupid, and doing a half-ass hit doesn't pass the smell test. Did Iran have some kind of accident?

The Iranians think that they are real bad-a$$es because they "got away" with the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, the PAN-AM Lockerbie bombing (for which Libya took all the blame), the Khobar towers bombing, their harboring of Al-Qaeda terrorists ("under house arrest") and their support of the terrorist "insurgents" in Iraq. Frankly it was our weak-kneed response to Iranian terrorism that encouraged the Ayatollahs and mullahs to start a nuclear program in the first place.

One thing ought to be crystal clear by now, the Iranian theocrats have their minds set on driving the US out of the Middle East, and on exporting their brand of Jihad. The notion that they are building nukes because of an exaggerated concern that the Americans might launch an unprovoked attack against the Islamic Republic may sell well in Europe (and in Left-Wing circles in the US), but our government can never allow the decision makers in Teheran to think that we swallow that garbage. Yes, it's true that the Iranian Shia Islamists could destroy what we're attempting to do in Iraq (not that they aren't already trying); and it's equally true that they represent a potential terrorist threat against our Homeland equal to or (more likely) greater than anything Al Qaeda can currently throw at us. Nevertheless, the time has long since passed when we must confront the Iranians (militarily, if necessary), or find ourselves under the threat of Iranian nuclear blackmail within the next decade.
