Rowan Scarborough of the Washington Times has an update on the legal status of the Marine who was charged with premeditated murder after he killed two Iraqi insurgents:
The Marine Corps has issued what seems to be conflicting statements on the legal status of an officer who fatally shot two Iraqis, leading his attorney to contend commanders are split on the decision to charge him with premeditated murder in the combat deaths. Last week, the Corps initially announced that 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano faced unspecified charges in the shooting deaths. Lt. Pantano's civilian attorney, Charles Gittins, told reporters his client faced two murder charges.
But later, spokesman Maj. Matt Morgan, at Camp Lejeune, N.C., where Lt. Pantano is based, said the officer had not been charged.
This came as a surprise to Mr. Gittins, who said he has a copy of the official charge sheet signed by a prosecuting judge advocate that was handed to his client Feb. 1. On the sheet, it clearly states the Marine Corps has charged the 33-year-old officer with two counts of murder.
The Corps stands by how it has handled public relations in the criminal case of Lt. Pantano.
The Ann Coulter Rule Applies To Michelle Malkin, too......
"The Ann Coulter Rule Applies To Michelle Malkin, too......"
We have to post pictures of Ann Coulter when Michelle Malkin is mentioned??
Works for me.
Yes, due process to be followed, but in the sunlight. Beware, REMFs, New Media is watching!
You would think that a major would be a little more savvy about confusing the terminology of UCMJ "charges" with civilian "allegations" when talking to the media. Looks like the general could use a better spokesperson if he's gonna preside over this powderkeg.
That said, it doesn't look to me like the information at hand justifies a charge of murder, or any charge. But we don't know everything, yet.
Reminds me of an old joke about the Texas Rangers, which I'll reword to fit this.
The deaths should be ruled a suicide. The Marine said "halt or I'll shoot." They didn't halt. That's suicide.
That's nice, but where's the picture of ANN??
After all, it IS the ANN COULTER RULE.
;-)
I guess Ms. Malkin is a worthless ignorant puke too. Your infallible Marine justice system seems F'd Up.
Sorry that was for Poohbah the famous muslim killer.
If you insist.......
Oh, yeah.
Now this thread is complete.
When did she graduate from Parris Island?
If the answer is "she didn't," then she's a worthless ignorant puke.
Either she knows the Green Machine up close and personal, or she doesn't.
Like Scott Ritter.
Ritter proves the point: s**tbirds can sometimes become USMC officers. We don't know one way or the other at this point.
But if he's innocent, the first thing Pantano needs to do is fire Gittins. That idiot's statements helped convict LTC Allen West. Problem is, West was Gittins' client.
Charles Gittins, the Mark Geragos of the military lawyer community.
everyone, please got to the following link and sign the petition. Hopefully it will help Pantano and others like him. This whole thing is an outrage...
