Walmart's dominance has reduced alternatives for workers,
especially in rural areas.

Workers don not get 40 hours, thwey do get barely above the minimum, not enough to make a living. We save 52 cents, stuck workers pay with poverty.

Walmart deserves to get hit. They came on, bragging of thier "made in the US" business, then sold us out for virtual slave labor.while making huge money at the top.

Walmart is notorious for treating its people badly, I believe they are vulnerable to a major action coordinated via the net. "stay home today"

What would they do, shut all thier stores in the US?

I am by no means anti-business, but the pendulum has to swing back a bit. Unions became corrupt and useless, but they changed the world for the better at one time.

A few at the top grab it all, the rest struggle.
There needs to be more balance.

We need to seperate ourselves from a knee jerk distaste for Unions because of thier Big D/ voting corruption, and get on the side of people who are working thier butts off, and staying poor. We may not like the AFLCIO, teachers unions, etc, but this is a different animal.

Walmart is not the good guy here. They slammed the doors because they are afraid, thier vulnerability is real.
They have earned it, i say bring it on.

I am not going to one of thier stores again, until it happens.

Talk to some of the folks in the stores sometime to get the drift. Its not cool.

You say, tough luck, go somewhere else.
You ever been there, done that?

There is no justifiable reson to not give folks 40 hours, to not pay them a decent wage.

We are talking about one of the largest, most profitable,
haRDnosed companies in the world here.

Profit is one thing, greed, arrogance and slave labor is another.

Walmart has lost my support on this one.

Later

"They have earned it, i say bring it on."

They did. The union won. WalMart is gone. No problem.

"Wal-Mart's decision triggered vicious rebukes from leftist Canadian politicians."

Say what you will about Rand but she was spot on on this particular subject.

Atlas shrugs and the looters wail.

"Workers don not get 40 hours, they do get barely above the minimum, not enough to make a living."

OK could you put some numbers to that. What weekly paycheck is not enough to make a living.

I'm really surprised how they layed right down for the Chinese Communists and agreed to allow yoonyunizashun of ALL there China operations!!!

Dude, over there the workers need unions to benefit employees from child labor abuses, slave labor etc. as their country transforms from communism into a capitalism. (much like the early years of worker abuse in the USA). In the US, we no longer need the unions, except for maybe the construction trades.

China does not have unions.

Walmart imports only 7% of its product from China. A further 3% is imported from other countries.

That makes Walmart not only the biggest business in the USA but also the biggest Made-In-The-USA company in the USA.

I know those are just facts, but once in a while, I would like people to find out and understand the facts instead of living off urban myths planted by unions.

Wal-Mart's decision triggered vicious rebukes from leftist Canadian politicians.

David Christopherson, a Canadian Member of Parliament, even called Wal-Mart's decision to close the store "economic terrorism."

WRONG!

It means kiss our Corporate rear you Canadian Socialists!

Way to go Wal-Mart!

If a job does not pay enough, get another job.
If there is not another better-paying job where you live, move to where one exists...
Some people would just rather have it given to them...
I make a good six figure income. I earn every dime. I work seven days a week, 12-16 hours a day. I drive over 60,000 miles a year. I use laborers, but usually they speak english. I have three businesses, and I run them MY WAY. I do not have any employees, but instead contract with others for services. I don't pay anybody else's "benefits", but do enjoy the cruises that my wife and I frequent/
Sam Walton started Walmart, in Arkansas and originally tried to market "Made in America". He expanded due to market demand, not out of greed. Through their own sales, they discovered that the market wanted cheaper, foreign made items. After Sam died, the powers decided to use china as a tool. They helped finace some of them. They were not the first. As a matter of fact, there were lots of others in line ahead of them, but Chinal recognozed the market available through Wally-world. I don't think they understood some things, though.
In case you don't know it, the best wasy to fight communism is by showing people a better life, a little freedom from scraping by.
If you want to do something for Africa, go there and do it... Others have tried, but the natives won't work! Nowadays, they just appropriate the mostly white-owned farms, and use them up, until the places are ruined...
In China, IMO, the people will fight their way to the top, because we gave them jobs! If you want to shop at Wal-Mart, shop there. If you don't, then spend your dollars elsewhere. But, don't go to RadioShack, or a myriad of other stores, that stock "Made in China"! You will get to spend a lot of time shopping... rather than buying!

if that link works it's to walmart's benefit page. i would say offering health care to part time employees is a good thing. it's also a step up from fast food work. i bought 14.44 sneakers there yesterday, and a 10.00 peach tree, and personal supplies.

With Wal-Mart out of the way I would think the people would be rejoicing for all of the mom and pop stores that can now open.

I agree with your point. There is a serious double standard at times.

I do not like the way Wal-Mart(China-Mart) business practices. Look below those low prices to see the real cost to America.

The poor souls that work for Walmart deserve better.

How much more are *you* willing to pay them?

The poor souls will find other work, probably for better pay.

If they find another unskilled labor position for better pay, good for them. No one forces them to work at Wal-Mart.
