On page 162, the report says that it was Mr. Howard who made the first concerted effort to address the possibility that the segment had been in error: At 4 :53 a.m., he sent Ms. West an e-mail recommending that CBS News acknowledge the possibility that it had been duped and that the documents could be a hoax.

That request was ignored by Ms. West, who ceded responsibility to Mr. Heyward—who apparently ceded responsibility to the network’s public-relations man, Mr. Schwartz. Mr. Schwartz reports directly to Mr. Moonves and is responsible for penning his press releases (including, presumably, the Jan. 10 statement with which Mr. Howard takes issue).

Talk about passing the buck (or even something rhyming with buck)...A real circle-jerk, all wrapped up in a catch-22.

Why is the song lyric "when the walls, come tumbling down..." playing in my head?

CBS hasn't been very forthcoming with publicizing their internal emails. That's a clear indication of being dirty, since had they been clean they would have had an email trail to show all of their due diligence for fact checking and source verifications.

So it will be fun to see those emails get subpoenaed when the civil and criminal trials begin.

An equal indictment could me made of the whole MSM/DNC machine...Don't hold your breath, I am still waiting for that Kerry form 180 and the number of blacks murdered under Robert "KKK" Byrd's tenure as Grand Kleagle.

One way in which you protect yourself from libel is that you always say ‘in my opinion.’

Anyone who thinks this would protect them from a defamation claim is mistaken.

You'll probably all think I'm nuts and need a tin foil hat. But every time I hear of Mary Mapes or the Abu Ghraib torture scandal, first my skin crawls, and then I start wondering if there were some way to find out if any of the participants in the torture of those Iraqi prisoners opened a hidden bank account just before they started torturing the prisoners.

Or if there were a way to find out if large sums of money were paid out from CBS or the DNC for that matter, to unknown hidden bank accounts.

First the Abu Ghraib prison story and then the forged documents? I don't know, I guess I'm just not very trusting or too suspicious.

Hell, that's an attribute that Blather lacks....
He's just another lying phony leftist bastard, whose legacy is that he was wrong, lied and tried to crucify his help to cover his own sorry ass.....

What amazes me is what an unprofessional fiasco all of this has been, from the start right up to this point.

Why CBS's board cannot find some adults to run their business and to report the news is hard to fathom.

"In the event of a lawsuit, Mr. Howard has told associates that he would like to see Mr. Moonves and Mr. Schwartz put under oath to talk about their own roles in the network’s stubborn, hapless defense of the flawed segment on President Bush’s National Guard service."

"Mr. Howard has also indicated to colleagues that he would subpoena specific CBS documents, including the e-mails of top executives. That might shed further light on what members of management were saying to each other on Friday, Sept. 10, two days after the segment aired—a day that Mr. Heyward and Mr. Schwartz were making important decisions about CBS’s defense strategy."

Finally, this could mean some real news coming out of CBS if subpoenas are issued.

If Rather and Mapes investigated the Clinton Body Count with one third of the energy and passion they spend on get-Bush journalism the Democrat Party would have to close down.
