You know, our military used Star Wars as a vision for their ICMB defense system. Then they used Terminator for their vision for Future Combat Systems. I just hope they get around to seeing the Matrix. What's going to stop the military industrial complex from taking over the world?

I work for a company that has developed (and is still developing) robots for military use. We've made some stuff that does some fairly impressive things.

I think it is fair to say, however, that the robot remains a tool of the soldier and not a replacement for the soldier.

The robot is something that a soldier can use to send ahead into a cave in Afghanistan or into a hot zone building in Iraq. It's good to have a disposable point "man" to send around the corner ahead of our troops.

Its a good and useful thing.

HG Stine, was writing about robots in combat with the Washington Grays 15-20 years ago.

His conclusions, somebody is going to have to put their pink bod on the line.

Always will need muddy boots on th ground just not as many.

And one thing robots will do is control US!

I demand the right to keep and bear my own robot, thank you.

Great. The military can introduce a cool gizmo yet they still can't figure out a way to find roadside bombs.

The robot soldier has been a dream at the Pentagon for 30 years. And some involved in the work say it may take at least 30 more years to realize in full.

BS. 30 years from now we'll have enough new tech to expand the project for another 50 years. I can't imagine the robotics/AI research and development stopping any time this century.

"They don't get hungry," said Gordon Johnson of the Joint Forces Command at the Pentagon. "They're not afraid. They don't forget their orders. They don't care if the guy next to them has just been shot. Will they do a better job than humans? Yes."

My first thought upon reading this quote regarding the upcoming technology:

Gordon Johnson sounds like a real d*ck!

Three Laws of Robotics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
In science fiction, the Three Laws of Robotics are a set of three laws written by Isaac Asimov, which most robots appearing in his fiction have to obey. They state that:

A robot may not harm a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence, as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

My opinion on combat robots: This is the most dangerous tech development since the nuke. If we decide that what we believe in is important enough to kill people over, we ought to be willing to spill our own blood for that cause. This will take public opinion out of international policy. Cause: Americans tire of casualties in an unpopular war. Effect: Scientists develop robots to fight for us. Result: The general public develops complete lack of concern regarding US action overseas.

Years down the road of course, but it is scary. Say goodbye to the Medal of Honor.
